I believe everyone that can be reformed should have the opportunity to be reformed.
“But you don’t care about that problem at all. You don’t care about how hard it is to report a rape, to testify, to be interrogated, to be subject to a rape kit that will likely NEVER be tested—you only care about the poor convicted rapists and how hard their lives are.”
“even restrictions put on them by society for committing crimes when they were young. “
Sure, serial/repeat rapists and murderers are beyond reform. But committing one rape or murder shouldn’t come with so many life-long penalties.
If they can be reformed why are so many people here advocating for making them suffer, for putting so many restrictions on them forever?
According to you, all survivors are immune from doing or wanting something harmful. A survivor wants their rapist to suffer as much as possible forever, then sure. No one can criticize them. They want a list that all rapists have to be on forever that will make their life shit and be counter productive in terms of…
You know, talking to you is like talking to zionists. Nothing can be said to them about what they and the state of Israel are doing because their ultimate response is the Holocaust.
Well as someone who works in criminal justice and has studied criminal justice all around the world, it’s fact that even rapists and murderers can go on to be great people. They can realize 100% that what they did was wrong. They can go on to become advocates for peace. To advocate against rape and murder. This is…
I don’t seek blood or vengeance. Threads like this always remind me that as a society, the United States is sometimes thousands of years behind. Another’s suffering will never relieve my suffering. Their learning what they did was wrong will make the difference.
Except I do as a member of society and I too have a say in how our laws, procedures and criminal justice system as a whole should work. I work in the criminal justice field. While working to secure a higher rate of convictions for domestic abusers I also work to rehabilitate individuals and reduce recidivism.
I can tell you for certain that not everyone deals with a mugging as well as you. Also, most muggings don’t end in convictions or even having charges brought or even investigating.
I’m not saying there is a wrong type of survivor. I am saying there are better ways deal with trauma than others.
I’m truly sorry for what happened to you and all those who have had to suffer through such violence.
What purpose will being on the list serve him though? What purpose will it serve society?
I agree with your comment 100%. This man is terrible. He needs to serve time, pay his debt and work to right his wrong. But very few crimes should be held against people forever. Even murderers can be reformed and become productive members of society. It’s nearly impossible to grow and fully function if you’re…
I believe most people who perpetrate crimes can be reformed. Even people who rape and murder. Unfortunately the US criminal justice system isn’t interested in reform thus we have an incredibly high recidivism rate.
