Where you live might be a factor? Some areas are certainly more open to the idea than others.

Things that helped me: I researched areas that had doctors/clinics willing to perform a sterilization procedure for me (http://www.reddit.com/r/childfree/wi… is a great resource) and told my doctor that I would prefer to see

Good luck!! You’re welcome :)

I'm glad my post was helpful! I didn't pursue sterilization for years because I was told it couldn't be done in my age group. There are a lot of stories of people in that subreddit which were really helpful, and a coworker's wife also had the procedure done and was very helpful.

It's a good idea to at least talk to

I think Childfree implies a choice.

Childless may cover those who are childfree, but also includes those who can't conceive, or who want children but are holding off on having them due to age/circumstance/etc

I hate this question!

Childfree and Childless are different terms with different meanings, they are definitely not interchangeable.

Childfree is fine for me. I understand maybe it's not the catchiest terminology, but it's certainly less cumbersome than many alternatives (childless by choice, non-breeder, etc. I think it's also less

I'm so sorry you've had to listen to people saying those things. <3

Thanks for sharing! I'm getting sterilized soon, and I'm actually REALLY excited about it, but am mostly not sharing that I'm having a procedure done with with most friends and family because a lifetime of "But you'll change your mind!" and "It's different when they're yours!" is enough, without being told that I'll

Knowing this, you can start planning your Honeyfund donation for them now

"it's true that such practices are not steeped in generations of tradition, but if you extend that logic far enough, unacceptable practices would also include horseless carriages and indoor plumbing."

Yes, yes, yes, and yes.

"Popular costumes that year (and every following year) will include Sexy Santa, Sexy Rudolph,

Exactly!

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels the Musical had a great song that mostly reminds me of GWBush, but I feel like it applies here as well:

If only we could all get accidental invites to things to kickstart our social lives!

Maybe if I ever get married I'll only send invites to strangers and avoid family drama...Now that's an idea...

"Could it be because he's raising the money for an offer that was extended to him, as opposed to some self-indulgent creation of his own?"

Nailed it.

I hate when the response to all the "frivolous" GoFundMes is "BUT THINK OF ALL THE CHARITY YOU COULD BE DOING INSTEAD!!!" Sometimes doing something silly is really okay.

That's an interesting perspective...It makes me feel better haha, thanks for sharing

I generally love and enjoy John Green, his books, his internet posts, and youtube videos. I doooooooooon't understand his adoration of Ansel Egort. Just because he was in TFiOS? Why was he allowed? I feel personally betrayed.

DFTBA, John.

Don't Fuckin' Talk 'Bout Ansel.

So, not my story of being cheated on though I'm involved:

When I was 14, my parents who had always had a tumultuous marriage (to the point where my brother and I kept waiting for the divorce. Always. Hoping for it, really), finally seemed to be happy together. It turns out my mother had just stopped causing problems

I had always been very athletic, with the one constant being that I rode horses for about 20 years before finally suffering a foot injury that prevented me from riding for almost a year.

It took way longer to lose muscle mass than I expected, although stamina and cardio were definitely out the door pretty quickly.

"update your resume with your new job and update it periodically, especially if your duties change or you do something particularly awesome. It's really hard to update your resume when you're stressed out because your job has gotten unbearable."

This is so important. So important!
