This was my immediate reaction too - how can parents do this to their child? But I think it’s clear that there are some places out there where there’s a huge difference between a ‘male child’ and a ‘female child’. It seems like when it comes to females, families feel a sense of ownership, which they don’t feel towards

Belief that children are your property.

How can anyone do that to their own child? You spend all those years loving and raising her, and then boom, set her on fire? How?!

Saved is great, as is But I’m A Cheerleader. Hopefully the kids at these places can find some measure of solidarity with each other in real life.

California has banned them, but even if all 50 states outlaw this type of abuse therapy, they’ll just relocate to other countries like the Dominican Republic (where the documentary Kidnapped For Christ was filmed).

I’m certain the legal process they’re referring to is an attempt to emancipate her.

Why did they have to preface the fact she's gay by her accomplishments? So if she was a B average student and smoked weed with diesel mamas on the weekends, she wouldn't be worth it?

Somewhat related to the topic, when people ask if being gay is a choice, I say that the correct answer is “no it’s not”, but I think an even better answer is “so what if it was”? I just never understood why some people care so much about others being intimate with members of the same sex. Seriously, how does it affect

I’m so glad for Sarah that not all of her family are shitlords. My heart breaks for the kids at the facility that aren’t that lucky. All of these military-style/hard labor camps for “troubled” teens should be illegal, they're abuse straight up.

I always stay faaaar away from motorcycles because I have this horrible mental image of them hitting a small pothole and falling over in front of me. I know this is ridiculous...

This asshole driving 100 MPH black out drunk in my neighborhood, who slammed into a stopped car so hard he decpitated the driver, for 1 year in jail. Because the driver had THC in his system. The basically blamed the guy for his own death. So this guy probably won't get shit.

It’s called dsym-syndrome (didn’t see you mate). And it just means the driver was not paying attention, not that the other person was somehow invisable. I am so glad I don’t live in the US, for many reasons, but being able to cycle on protected paths is one of them.

Because when you’re young you think you’re invincible and infallible. Now that you’re older and wiser you know better.

The sad (yet unsurprising) truth is that drivers who hit and kill cyclists are rarely punished in any real, tangible way. The charges are often minor and result in suspended licenses or fines of less than $1,000. A driver in Ohio got off scot-free after he struck a group of five cyclists last year, killing two. His

Wow, you’re awesome. Seriously! Lifelong cyclist and motorcyclist. I always give motorbikes extra room. Grampa actually taught me that.

What the hell is up with that anyway? When I’m driving my car, I see a motorcyclist, I give them a very wide berth for their safety.

Two things scare the crap out of me when driving:

Numerous studies have proved driving drunk and driving sober while texting are pretty much the same thing.

It looks like a typo; I think he swerved to miss the duck!

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say drunk driver.
