I was lucky. In 4th Grade (Hawaii) we got a once weekly class about how things functioned. Very basic, but what a period was, diagrams/illustrations of a woman’s body and a man’s body, how pregnancy happens, etc. In 7th Grade we had a semester covering the topic, much more involved.
