Exactly this, thank you. I loved “Kitchen Confidential,” and the first series (before “Cook’s Tour”) was good. “Cook’s Tour” was as you say - kind of dumb and pointless, and disappointing. I lost track of him a bit after that, but every Parts Unknown I saw was high quality. He definitely evolved.

Like so many, I am shocked and saddened. I was a huge fan when he first hit, in the early 2000s: the x and I visited Les Halles, where he used to work in NYC, and I loved his first book. Didn’t follow him as much in recent years, but I liked what he did with his Pittsburgh episode.
