Lupita blows all the other women in those photographs away. Her personality clearly shines through and it's obvious she has a great deal of charisma and poise.

Pretty sure no one thinks it's a solution to the greater societal problems. Doesn't mean one person shouldn't receive help, if the story so moves the donor.

Someone pointed out upthread in the comments that the interviewer would probably give her five minutes to be polite, and then not hire her. If she can't find childcare for the interview, they may be afraid that she won't be able to find it consistently once she's working.

Second example: Angela Corey (special prosecutor in Trayvon Martin case.)

That was possibly her only option. That's the severity of the catch 22 the poor are faced with every day.

Um...lest we forget the Relisha Rudd story where her family "left" her with someone who they "trusted" at their homeless shelter, and that person eventually kidnapped the girl. Granted it's looking like the family probably sold her to the man but still. The likelihood of a child being snatched up is real and shouldn't

I think the major problem for an interviewer would be if she can't find childcare for a couple of hours for an interview, how can she find childcare daily?

That was my first thought, too. Like, homie... Are YOU offering your services or....? Oh, you're not? Oh, okay....

How about the Dupont heir who raped his 3 year old and was given probation because he probably wouldn't "fare well in prison"? And this woman could be jailed for 7 years? And there are still people who like to pretend that money and race have nothing to do with how differently people are treated by the justice

A child was still left in a car however so they were still "in danger". I applaud your effort to deter from the issue of race and sex but its still a factor in why she was immediately arrested and is being charged as opposed to the possibility of being charged.

In my experience, they would have given her a token 5 minute interview and thanked her for her time. And then she wouldn't have gotten the job.

I want to be snarky, but [shocker!] I hadn't even heard about this. Funny how a white man faces a completely different response than a black homeless woman.

And we wonder how we keep the poor in poverty. In France, she could have found a day care center. For free.

I would like to point out the man who left his baby in his car for EIGHT hours and wasn't even arrested.

But her kids were always at risk, as was she. Thanks to the cutting of food stamps and keeping the minimum wage low, as well as other circumstances, she is in the care for more than 8 hours a day, everyday with the kids. Compared to that, an hour is miniscule?

As a wise woman I know once observed: "No matter how much money you have, child care is ALWAYS an issue."

Prosecutors are some of the most evil, racist people in the country. We don't talk about that enough.

"But I'm equally concerned and compelled about the circumstances those two children were in."

There is no aspect of the story that is not heartbreaking: this woman epitomizes how difficult it is to claw your way out of crippling poverty and the many "damned if you do, damned if you don't" choices one has to make in doing so. Her children were in real danger. Very real, very serious danger, and that should not

My friend and I were just reminiscing about how our parents would leave us in the car to read while they went to the grocery store, or wherever really. It was totally normal. I feel for this lady. Every time I see her face with the tears it breaks my heart. So glad people are reaching out to help her. The kids are a
