There are poor people that steal $100 and face decades in prison. They've essentially stolen millions and are only facing 2-4 years. I don't feel sorry for them at all.

I feel bad for the daughters. From the little I saw of the show, it seems like Theresa alienated a lot of her family. I hope her family will be gracious and loving to Theresa's daughters. That said, nyah, nyah, serves you right, you horrible people.
I am a super bleeding heart liberal with tons of empathy normally. I cannot muster up a bit of empathy for the two of them at all. I feel for their kids, but still, nope not a single bit of empathy.

Because of slavery. Most African/black Americans simply don't have knowledge of their origins because of the slave trade.
Unfortunately, because we don't know the heritage of many blacks living in the United States. The slave trade will do that. Also, those involved in the slave trade would have most closely identified with a tribe rather than a country that probably didn't exist at the time they were kidnapped.
Because many people who identify as African American do not know what country they are from because of the slave trade. So in the 70s I believe white Americans started calling black people African American to be politically correct. And America is a technically the country: United States of America

Exactly, and even if DNA testing could show which part of Africa they came from, those national identities probably didn't exist at that particular time.
Because there is a population of largely W. African descent whose particular origins can't be determined due to the misdeeds of others.
