I'm a US ex-pat here in Canada, and came to love the Tragically Hip after moving here. I heard a radio program (on CBC, natch) where Gord Downey and Gordon Lightfoot talked about songwriting, and it was the best thing ever. Started my love affair with the Hip. Can't wait to watch the show on tv tonight. Bobcaygeon is

Me three!

Not a bit like Cagney.

Oh, Ground Round! Loved that place as a kid. Ours had free peanuts in the shell, and you could throw the shells right on the floor when you were done. Crazy.

I'm with you guys! I always feel so weird when people start slagging it. It's a wonderful movie, and a wonderful novel, which I read after I saw the movie, and loved both.

I think that's everyone's opinion. Good movie that's ruined by a completely terrible score. Or at least a completely mismatched score. I personally think it's terrible.

All righty then. Nice talkin' to ya.

The word "pantywaist" being used to identify someone as "a weak and ineffectual male" is dated back to 1936. Just because you have decided it is spelled differently doesn't mean it is. I am merely pointing this out because you seem to think the first guy misspelled it. He didn't.

Yes, but I neglected to post definition 2: a sissy.

Pantywaist: 1. a child's garment consisting of short pants buttoned to a waist.

Oh, no worries. My outrage is only internet deep, really. My only issue is that damn license plate. I mean, when you grow up in a town where the Wright Brothers are celebrated as native sons, and then visit an entirely different state that tries to claim them as their own, you get a little defensive.

OOOKay, but the point is, they were Ohioans. From Ohio. That did all their work in Ohio. Just because they flew the thing in North Carolina, does not make them North Carolinians. And yes, I have been to Kitty Hawk. I lived in NC for a while. I debated using White-Out on my license plate.

Sorry, but as a born-and-raised Ohio girl, I must object to the idea that the Wright bros developed their plane at Kitty Hawk. They developed it in Dayton, Ohio, then carted it down to NC for the wind. I can't even tell you how furious those "First in Flight" license plates make me. Birthplace of Aviation FTW!!!

I so relate to this! I thought I was the only one. I really hate going to a new fast food place and not knowing what to order, or having to customize when I just want a damn sandwich. Ugh. There is a fish and chips place near where I live that I have heard good things about. The food, anyway. I have also heard that

I don't know, guys, I feel like this was a legitimately Great Job, Internet! Because that was awesome. I'm sure it was just a fluke.

Yeah, this article was astonishingly free of detail. I thought the AV club write-up was not specific enough, and went and read the article, and haven't learned much more.

Our neighborhood's ice cream truck played "La Cucaracha". Not really the best choice.

I got the Lego kit for Christmas. I am a grown-ass woman with three kids and I squealed and hugged the box after it was unwrapped. He now sits in a prominent spot in my house, clutching an EVE pez dispenser. He is absolutely perfect!

Ooh, I forgot about that one! It has been forever since I saw it, but it was rather good.

I loved Tintin as well, so you are not alone! I am quite excited about a sequel, truthfully, and avoided that Newswire since I knew it would be a shitshow in the comments. So we'll just sit over here, admiring Tintin, while everybody else has themselves a nice little snark wank.
