I COMPLETELY understand your sentiment. That said, it seems that they were already weighed down by those words. They remembered more than the mother did it seems. They retained those words and, it seems, knew what they meant if they could come up with instances that the mother didn't even remember.

I'm sad these girls have to hold these placards. I understand the mother's intent in bringing attention to this issue, but I wish I wish I wish there was some way these young girls did not have to hold these words, almost as though they are weighed down by their import. :-/ What do I know, though.
