It was the same for LT1 and L98 engine swaps. The F-Body is the one you want because the C4 Corvette engine accessory drive is wider than most engine bays.  Otherwise the engines are the same.  The difference in rated output is likely just GM trying to keep the Corvette looking like it was on top.
