You made my day. Demonstrated the GLARING problems with the OP’s comments much more succinctly than I could. Thanks.

Thank you for this! I’m pretty disturbed by people’s reactions to celebrities discussing these issues. Their “whatever, she’s famous” responses seem a hell of a lot like they are saying “she’s asking asking for it” (definitely seems this way in the case of this OP).

Thanks for this!!. . . . I’m pretty irritated that people don’t seem to realize “Ah, she’s entitled. . . .And she likes being talking about in SOME cases . . . ” is kind of just another way to be like, “She’s asking for it.”

They willingly give us photos and details of their life when it suits them, and when it doesn’t they complain.

Yep. I have to say I was very happy to hear that Zimmerman got punched in the face—and I didn’t really feel morally conflicted about it at all. Until I read that the person who punched him *may* have had a confederate flag tattoo.

But there’s a limited appeal here, one that reinforces women’s worth as deeply interdependent on domesticity.

Thanks for this. I felt like this was a case of a blogger having beef with something just to have beef with something. Obama’s piece is clearly a personal essay, written about his personal experience. There’s absolutely no language in it that actually “[reinforces] women’s worth as deeply interdependent on

Agreed. I’m not worried about Clinton being beholden to any right-of-center donors.

This is totally true and my response was overly simplistic. The only way that kind of conservatism was possible was when white Americans were able to keep resources away from black americans. White fury over the Civil Rights movement was the defining force of modern conservatism. And modern conservatism is wretched

It is disappointing that “social issues” have hijacked Republican’s economic policies.

I would agree. . . . except that I hate her and would love it if she would Shut the Fuck Up. She is obviously very intelligent. She also espouses very liberal talking points—liberal talking points that are the antithesis what the GOP platform stands for—and then just pastes these talking points on her father, like,

While this may be true, it changes nothing here. This woman pointed a gun at the police and threatened to kill them.

I’m a uber-leftie progressive and I don’t think it’s that bad that democrats have to appeal to the center (or slightly right of center) conservatives. The fact is that progressives as simply really outnumbered in this country. Conservatives even outnumber moderates (by a small margin 37% to 35%) Individuals who are

Also: walking around the street and seeing people and thinking, “45% of you will vote for a racist demagogue for president.” Even if he loses, this is an extremely depressing percentage of the American population. Thanks GOP, for putting your country before your party.

Yep. . . . . and the Liberty Counsel is actually classified as a Hate Group. Defending Kim Davis is like the least horrible thing they have ever done.

Rubio is an asshole, but he’s not being inconsistent here in any way I can see.

Look, it’s possible this was a justified police shooting. And it’s possible that there was very little way for the police to de-escalate the situation.

Wanted to say, “Thank you” to both you and BabySteps. Your commentary/conversation was so thoughtful—and important for others to see/think about. Thank you.

I, like many other commenters, am conflicted about what to think about this w/out more info. I DO think transparency is best. . . .but, if it’s an active situation and somehow the stream could escalate the situation, then I could see shutting it down. But, I’ll remain very conflicted until we know more (which, we

Same.
