I am glad that Barack came down from Mount Olympus today and shared a revamped version of his task force’s plan, and said that voting and protesting are not an “either or,” but rather a “both, and” function. His whole speech today was short and sweet, and I think it uplifted more than a few spirits. My only critiques

What he’d really like is to position himself as the successor to Trump when he runs for President in 2024. Which tells you a lot about the Republican Party that “militarized police state” would be what appeals to the same base that constantly bleats about freedom.

If anyone had any doubts as to how the military would react if Trump loses and tries to stay and/or orders the military to intervene on his behalf- the Mattis essay and the way the current SecDef sounded in an interview today should put those doubts to rest. The brass (Esper isn’t among them but clearly is influenced

yeah, he’d like to see“a militarized police state”.

Tom Cotton is a fascist who doesn’t support the 1st Amendment. A Congressperson like that should be banned from their seat.

“Look I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this but, fuck that,”

No surprise that Trump spoke with Putin the same day this all went down.

My favorite quote today:

Ugh. This “Battlefield D.C” thing makes me sick to my stomach. I’ve heard from 2 vets so far that tell me that this is just plain fruitcake-nutty and that the Sec’y of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs need to resign. I’m quite worried.

He’s so desperate to be a beloved wartime president that his latest Press Secretary today compared that photo-op to fucking Churchill in WW2:

so he knows exactly what the military can/should do, and what can go terribly wrong

The significant thing about the man who proactively sought the right to torture prisoners is that even a son of a bitch* like him can recognize someone even more evil., and maybe he represents to whatever shreds remain of the ”country club Republican” crowd that they must reject Trumpism.

I actually witnessed a Facebook friend who is substantively conservative and right leaning make the logical leap to understanding that freedom has more often been won through actual physical struggle than anything overtly peaceful. That the civil rights amendment didn’t happen until after the widespread riots of the

I guess Trump found Esper’s redline. The guy was an officer with the 101st Airborne before getting out, and also was a light colonel in the National Guard, so he knows exactly what the military can/should do, and what can go terribly wrong. Even in a warzone, soldiers are professionals with rules of engagement, so

THIS (gwb) guy needs to go back to the hole he crawled from and STFU. How DARE he make a statement about systemic racism when he left my city to drown with no help for 5 fucking days!!

You kind of also get the feeling he was summing up his experience as SecDef over the last year.

Why can’t people just quietly work within the system that has failed them for generations?

a karevan

Esper has lasted almost a year. That’s an impressive achievement in this administration.

Maybe it was something to do with this? Seriously, how fucking awkward is this shit? Just standing in front of a boarded up church in ill-fitting suits, weird postures. Nobody knowing wtf to do with their arms.
