I've been doing this for years now. It saves me a fair bit of money, and my modem is better than most of the modems/routers they usually rent you (yeah, quite often they're cruddy combo models).

Because no matter what you do, you are forced into Metro-mode to do many things that you shouldn't? I would gladly use only desktop mode. Unfortunately, that's not an option.

Then why does Windows 8 have so many navigation and usability methods forced upon you that are clearly meant to only be useful on a touchscreen and don't work at all on a desktop?
