Oh yeah, Eternals would have worked MUCH better as a tv show (and maybe will in the future) as that would have given us a chance to actually get to know the characters who - barring Kingo (and his wonderful valet) and Phastos (and, when they finally gave him a bit of complexity, Ikaris) - all felt flat and thinly

To be fair, nine yards is a lot of commitment.

I’m largely with you, although I have taken quite a bit to the most recent run, which really works hard to give them a different identity, different themes, and a different focus than the various X-Men/Avengers/Inhumans they could otherwise be a little too similar to.

Taiwanese death metal band Chthonic...

No, no, it’s Dunc, not Dune!

I’d go with:

As someone who has been lucky enough to see it... I’d say it might just be his best work yet. It’s certainly my favourite thing he’s done.

Unexpected, but excellent, news!

Hmmm, I was looking forward to this, and will still be checking it out (I missed it at the BFI festival last week) but this review has tempered my expectations slightly.

Best news to come out of the entire event so far.

“The judge says the carpool rules are meant to fill empty space in a vehicle, and cops can’t conduct pregnancy tests.”

Absolutely love the movie, so colour me cautiously sceptical, but this, at least:

I don’t need proof, dammit, I just need... hope.

Oddly enough it’s not playing at Mayhem in Nottingham this year (I thought it was a shoe-in, but then this year’s slate hasn’t grabbed me the way the previous couple did, for whatever reason) but they’ve got a bunch of films in conjunction with the BFI coming up and this is one of them. Very much looking forward to it.

I still live in hope (even more so now) that a future writer will decide to use Zola as the primary antagonist in another Captan America movie. Having Sam and Bucky, for example, trying to fight against weaponised information like that - something that knows all your secrets and can’t just be punched into submission

As others have pointed out, she’s now so invested in being “right” - and proving it to everybody - that she’s just going to keep digging, and digging, until she’s got something she can point to as a “win”, no matter who she needs to attack or expose or associate with in the process.

My local paper (inexplicably) ran a story about a care-home worker claiming she was being “emotionally blackmailed” into getting the vaccine, and it was full of the usual “I believe in my own immune system”, “we don’t know the long-term effects”, “my freedom!” bullshit.

Nooooooo!!! Cookie wife!!! Cookie kids!!!

Not necessarily (though I understand the sentiment). Having just got back from seeing it I could definitely see them retconning Ta Lo as one of the “Kingdoms of Heaven” and using that to connect to K’un Lun. But, then again, two “secret mystical cities” could well seem redundant, as you said.

Now playing
