I learned this trick while working at a software company a while back...
How ‘bout we knock off the stupid “IKEA falls apart so easily!” bullshit? Yeah, it’s made cheaply, but as long as you’re not a gorilla, the stuff survives just fine. I’ve got stuff from over a decade ago that survived multiple trips from California all the way to Philadelphia. It really isn’t that difficult to just…
Building it once and you’re generally okay. Its the disassembling that can make things a little dicey for the long run. I have had mixed success on the rebuilds, but the nicer pieces are still standing strong.
Yeah I had an IKEA desk/kallax combo that moved like 5 times and was still good (it was old enough it was the old style of kallax with thicker sides, and the shelf is still fine I just got a new desk so ditched that past) and our dining room table and chairs are IKEA.
Definitely gotta choose your products wisely, but yes, I got some Ikea stuff from '06 that's still doing work for me.
I just bought their customizable closet kits. They look great, are totally interchangeable, and cost less than half of a cheap Rubbermaid kit that looks like its for a pantry at best. I love em.
I know this will be unpopular, given the main demographic of this site, but the problem with investing in the stock market, or other ventures that are all about getting as high a profit as possible, is that they are patently unethical. I remember looking into so-called “ethical” mutual funds a few years ago, and many…
Perhaps, but to me implied that was the end of it all.
I’m not claustrophobic, but I have had two MRIs done, I think the problem would be more the amount of noise, like a fog horn at some points.
Fuck that noise. The song, in all of its versions, belongs to Leonard Cohen and always will (I saw Leonard a few of times live—the first time in 1993 on what was supposed to be the night I got engaged except that my husband couldn’t wait that long. He was funny and humane and lovely to hear, forever).
Wow. Another reason to go to Montreal.
Nice list, but I’m not going to miss them. I think the only one that some users will really complain about is the fixed taskbar location
The first American astronaut didn’t do anything in space either. All he did was circle the earth a few times.
In this particular case, they’re more necessary because of the Track Point controller. If you use the nub controller, you need a mouse button (which is why they’re on the top of the touch pad vs. the bottom). Approximating it with taps from your thumb is awkward at best.
Even better, get a Yagi on an antenna mast and make it lazily rotate all day.
Numbness can come from wrong saddle height as well, so before you go spending money on a new saddle, try adjusting your saddle height and improve your bike position in general.
This is definitely a time where paying for quality matters. I switched over to Brooks saddles awhile back for a Priority Classic and after you break it in, there is nothing better than a suspended leather saddle and with some different spring configurations you’ll find a level that works for you.
Funny, I literally just bought a Brooks Flyer for my commuting bike. Its been a game changer; absolutely perfect saddle for any bike more aggressive than a beach-cruise but without drop-bars. I still miss my steel-framed bike, but the Flyer makes me miss it less so (still: Death to Aluminum!)
Saddles with the cutout may help. They may not. Try other fitment stuff first.
