There’s definitely an argument against Pokevision. The fact that it would tell you exactly where a Pokemon was spawned and the amount of time it would be there down to the second was pretty over the top. Also I realize they shut the tracker down because it was broken anyways and they’ve stated they’re working on a new

A reason could be that the vast majority of players isnt that bothered by any of the things that more experienced gamers are annoyed by.

Because you dont just “get more servers”.

Or not everyone hates Pokemon GO and not everyone likes Pokemon GO now.

The same can be said of the internet right now regarding Pokémon GO though. It’s been a giant echo chamber on the subreddit, Kotaku, and other gaming sites. If looking at the internet, it appears the problems are universally perceived and everyone’s quitting because of it. In reality, it’s certainly more complicated

I’m sure the server was performing that calculation. It’s makes much more sense to pass the user’s current location to the server and have the server use its database’s built-in spatial methods to determine which pokemon are nearby based on its table of pokemon and their locations and pass back a list then it is to

“You’re just listening to your own echo chamber. I can tell your information is wrong because my echo chamber says something different!”

Could also be just observation, which is factual evidence gathering. At the most, we have a large number of people who complain and a larger number of people who are not complaining and are either oblivious to or aren’t sufficiently bothered by the updates to complain. See: outside everywhere.

Can I ask a stupid question? How anyone can play PG while riding on a bike?!

It’s pretty obvious that they’re making server performance and stability the main priority right now. Everything they’ve done so far has been towards the goal of reducing traffic. Once they get that under control (and as the number of active users diminishes to what they can expect to be whatever their normal number

I guess if you only hang out on Twitter with a certain selection of people. Everyone I know is still playing/doesn’t mind or care about the updates.

You got it, exactly. We saw the same thing with Ingress. There was a custom map application you could download that not only gave you and advantage over using the one provided by Niantic, but put a much larger load on the server. They were making the game run slower for everybody else to get their advantage. Part of

Yeah, I read that after I posted this. I don’t understand the technicals, but I guess they couldn’t have just left it running. Still, they’ve been super quiet and kind of flippant about everything from day one. They need to be very contrite right now, but all I see them doing is very quietly working

First of all, calculating distance between two points on Earth doesn’t require you to use Google Maps API, it’s pretty simple calculation, so I’m sure it’s not the issue. They removed footprints to reduce number of calls to their own API, since the server was overloaded. Unfortunately, disabling footprints caused

What’s all this “Nintendo/Niantic” nonsense? Nintendo has very little stake in Pokemon Go.

Important facts:
Fact 1 - I went to the open letter page and did a search for “bandwidth” and nothing came up, which leads me to conclude that Pokevision’s creator did not consider that their connection to the Pokemon Go servers was absolutely killing Niantic’s bandwidth budget.

“Guys, we had 50 million users visiting my site. Those users generated a lot of money for me, and I’m sad that I’m not able to make money off Pokemon GO’s users anymore. Please be mad at Niantic for not allowing me to make money. Please leave them 1-star ratings on my behalf.”

Money Making Scheme. It’s disappearance has no impact on the game. Why are you advertising for a money making scheme Patricia?

And?
