This is one of the aspects that bothers me the most. Doctors are trained to weigh the risks of side-effects against the benefits of taking the drug, and consider possible drug interactions. This is really not something that should be done lightly, with <10 min of internet research.

This is generally an actual rule outside the US, at the very least very ethically questionable.
