Not sure where you live but here in northern Minnesota we’re routinely under 0F with no issues starting ICE vehicles. Don't normally see an issue until -20F or so. 

I consider my Golf a compact. Happily park in those spots when they're available.

Exactly. When I go car shopping I tell the sales person up front if I am just looking or serious. If I am serious, I will tell them I want an out the door price. I have no trade-in to offer and we just want to talk that one price, potential financing rates and length of loan.
