The best analogy I can think of is if Jon Stewart had been elected president at age 40 on a platform of “Democracy is good”. Its hard not to simp for that.

Stalking victims don’t cause stalking. Stop.
Imagine being this ignorant about domestic violence.
Anyone else remember the media and public response a few months back when a woman released a song about an old break up? So weird that the response here is more muted....can’t fathom why
What is the IOC’s justification for banning marijuana given that its not performance enhancing and is legal and over the counter in many of the jurisdictions Olympic athletes live and train in?
Here’s another example. I once told a friend, who is Black, that the civil war “wasn’t about slavery” but was about “trade issues”.
Nope, saying that Whoopi’s intentions don’t lesson the harm of her actions does not put her “on the same level” as nazis.
I don’t know how many times I have to say this: a person’s intent doesn’t determine whether an action is or isn’t antisemitic.
It kind of depends on how the person reacts to being called out.
This has already been heavily covered by anti-racist thinkers. Impact outweighs intent. Accidental racism is racism. Feel free to google on that.
It is obviously worse to be intentionally antisemetic, but whether or not something is antisemetic is not dependent on intention.
If something has an antisemetic effect it is antisemetic. A person’s motivations do not matter. And no one has said it is “only” antisemetic.
Nope nope nope. This is Whataboutism. Bringing up Israel whenever antisemitism is discussed is derailment.
The issue is downplaying the role of racist ideology in atrocities is a tactic of racists. Whether a person purposely downplays it or does so just out of ignorance doesn’t change that it contributes to a climate that denies these ideologies are widespread and deadly. Accidental antisemitism is still antisemitism.
We’ve known this about child development for decades yet it is never discussed in any of the endless discussion about how to fix education. The strongest predictor of school test scores is the income of students’ families. No school based measure has as large or as direct an impact on student outcomes as simply…
My point is a person’s internal feelings do not discount their actions. If a person sexually abuses prepubescent children they are a pedophile regardless of their internal motivations.
Well its the same logic that says a person isn’t racist unless they *feel* racist, as if a person’s feelings matter more than their actions.
I watched the early years of the Duggars, back when they were ~17 kids, purely out of voyeurism. But I was pretty quickly put off by how agnostic the show - and a surprising amount of the fanbase - was about whether what the Duggar parents were doing was harmful to their children and whether their political ideology…
In defense of the First Wave, they were working at a time when a woman having control over her healthcare decisions was an unheard of idea. The people deciding whether women had abortions were husbands/boyfriends, fathers and male doctors, the abortions themselves were as dangerous as pregnancy and birth, and bearing…
I recently read the memoir Educated by Tara Westover, who was raised and homeschooled in a Mormon separatist family. She managed to get a college education and leave the family and ideology all together but its clear from her book that that was only possible because she was able to become financially independent from…
