So, hear me out now, this isn’t materially different than having teachers spend their spare time writing grant applications or begging strangers for money on Donor’s Choose just to provide an adequate education to their students.

Tell me you don’t know how taxes work without telling me you don’t know how taxes work.

I think it is more likely that two things can happen in a country of 330 million people 3000 miles apart by chance. But that won’t stop Fox from using this as proof of the “War on Christmas”.

If we’re talking about land use the average child in a poor country still using many times fewer acres than the average child in a wealthy country. Have you not seen those graphs of meat consumed per capita? Much of the meat consumed in the wealthy world is produced on land in the global south. My of our toilet paper

It’s a myth that low wage work was ever predominantly performed by teenagers. Factories, restaurants, stores - these all operate during school hours and late into the night when child labor laws prohibit teens from working.

It generally takes a generation for birth rates to adapt to lower infant mortality and greater access to family planning. There are countless examples of this across the globe. People will choose to have less kids as their conditions change, we don’t need to use shame.

Hasn’t Prince Charles been obsessed with global overpopulation since the 70s? It was excusable back then because scientists were actually concerned about it. Now its well understood to be a nonissue because of how birthrates fluctuate in response to changing conditions. People were freaked out about India just a few

Curious what you think my point was

The fact that you personally don’t know of many trans actors is proving the point that there is a problem in Hollywood of undercasting them. You haven’t heard of them because they haven’t been cast. Get it?

This professor is doing the research that would tell us if that is possible. Little research on it exists, backlash like this is why.

If you’re opposing research on a problem I seriously question how much you want that problem solved.

What are you talking about? Yes we do. That’s what a lot of psychiatry is. A person having violent thoughts who hasn’t committed any crimes can seek and receive psychiatric help. Most people with those thoughts don’t go on to commit crimes.

Well the problem is we have no idea where these desires come from, how to prevent or reverse them, because we’ve done basically no research on the topic. This professor is trying to do that.

This is kind of like saying time is better spent putting out fires than writing fire codes to prevent them.

The point is male athletes have more time and money and we draw from a much larger pool of them. We know that doing that with other populations (ie countries competing in the Olympics) creates artificial differences in performance.

The women’s 100 meter has decreased by .56 seconds since 1973, the men’s has only decreased by .29 in that time. So no, not the same progression.

You keep talking about current measures of athletic performance when I’m talking about potential athletic performance under different conditions. Were you alive in 1920 would you be insisting men’s times in the 100 meter race were the best they could ever hope for?

Dude, statistics don’t agree with you. Wealthier countries produce more Olympic medal winners, leagues with higher funding produce higher performing athletes. Cultural investment also increases athletic output - that’s why the US is great at Basketball, awful at Men’s Soccer, and great at Women’s Soccer. If you were

If you’re actually curious about this the size differential between sexes in mammals varies a lot and directly corresponds to social behaviors of those species. Ie a species with much larger males is more likely to mate in a haram pattern, species with less difference are more likely to be monogamous or polyamorous.

The only thing I’m taking issue with is people insisting we know the extent of biological differences versus those created by social/structural conditions, we don’t.
