Intrigued that these crews, while airborne during any portion of their flight, are not wearing their helmets in case of an immediate need to egress (i.e. eject).
Had an Air Force MAC crew stay overnight at NAS Sigonella back in ‘89 when I was doing a DET off the boat. Their enlisted crew chiefs and loadmasters were staying at the enlisted barracks I was at.

Of these pics, VS-24 is the one with the Viking head-on on the bow cat with the red rudder. It is the “CAG” bird, which was always a “700" aircraft. Each squadron tended to paint their CAG bird a high viz color or with high viz markings...a chance to show off. Other airwing aircraft did the same with 200, 300, 400,…
