He’s saying that if your value to an NBA team relies on throwing a ball 20 feet through an 18" rim ten feet off the ground, you won’t be able to do that as consistently* as if your value to an NBA team is in delivering a high effort defensive performance.

I haven’t seen a Matisse stop this spectacular since “Femme assise sur un balcon” failed to sell at auction over the summer.

I wonder how early in a game they’d concede a loss and just let all of their trustworthy pitchers sit..

I’m tempted to go a bit wider and point out the similarity here to the old “if the police are racist, why do black people get arrested and convicted of so many crimes? hmmmmmmmmmmm?”..

Yep - I click, I hit the page and realize it’s video, oh well nothing for me here I guess, I leave. No video.

Amazingly, things - bad things, even! - happen to franchises outside of New York.

Yeah but trying to make nice with two different ones leads to some serious cognitive dissonance

This is helpful.

In cases like this one there’d have to be additional punishment..

I think it’s a bit of a mistake to criticize all of these rules as “reactive” because what else can you do. That said, obviously these fans were behaving this way with complete impunity.

They might not have to, if a Chinese soccer club was willing to pay Gareth Bale’s wages (~$17m/year) whose to say that a Chinese basketball club couldn’t start signing bona fide world class players? Especially in some scenario where the NBA is all of a sudden a non-entity and any alternative likely enjoys extensive

They’re subjects of a settler-colonial empire. There may not be concentration camps but it would be foolish to pretend they’re not on the wrong side of a world power that is (at best) totally indifferent to its ongoing destruction of their culture and way of life.

Prior to this having an NBA angle, I thought it was pretty astonishing to see anti-colonialist/leftist types on social media claiming that it’s colonialism to support protestors in Hong Kong.

I’m sure in a way they’d welcome a chance to show solidarity like this (and show up the governing bodies that are failing to deal with this issue) in such a meaningless game.

Perhaps soccer stadiums need to be equipped with soundproofed rooms where fans can do VR simulations in which they are free to throw bananas and make monkey sounds and hires models of players. It’s win-win!

Apparently, three sentences = a “long story”

but Neal’s still just 32, not over the hill by any stretch

They just called Semin “jizz”
