Well that is a lot of goombas.
Well that is a lot of goombas.
I’m going to just assume that you’ve never actually played Breath of the Wild. Most people that get butthurt over this type of article haven’t, and your comments all seem to point in that direction.
Probably because Mario Odyssey just came out a couple weeks ago and the author wanted to touch on a trend he picked up on between it and Breath of the Wild? And also because he gets paid to post articles, and this is what he wanted to write about. It got you to click on it and spend at least enough time on the page to…
I mean, they kind of did in the celebration portion, where you turn into 2D retro Mario and play through a sort of remixed version of Donkey Kong. But I’m assuming you mean in the world itself, in full 3D and all that, and yeah that would be frickin sweet.
As someone who grew up obsessed with Mario, the timer barely even registers as something I’m cognizant of when I play Mario games. It’s weird how my brain has been conditioned to just accept the fact that I have to reach the end of a level in a certain amount of time, and if I don’t, I will be punished with death. But…
The fact that this article exists tells you that PS4 is not by itself a viable market for these types of games, at least not according to this somewhat prominent studio that publishes such games on PS4. You’re arguing that this studio is wrong in its assertion. I disagree with that. I don’t need to dissect each of…
Oh yeah, clearly the PS4 is super friendly to these types of games.
So we’re basically protesting a guy who’s protesting some guys who are protesting some stuff. Okay.
Oh yes, I know the level well. So many attempts at beating that game have been foiled by it. Definitely a good one for the ol’ P-Wing. These days I play that game on Wii U and 3DS virtual console, which is great because you can make a save state at any point. It’s incredibly useful on levels like that one.
They were definitely the best. I would hoard those things because they were so scarce, and I was so afraid of wasting them that I’d end up never even using them.
Yup. You can edit them until 15 minutes after you’ve posted them. After that, you can no longer edit them.
I’m not even talking about glitches. Did I say something about glitches? If I did, I didn’t mean to. And how is jumping on a koopa shell for a couple minutes or remembering a few key item or warp locations “collecting”? Mario games have been shelling out legitimate buffs and cheats in abundance for their entire…
You still have to beat things “normally” in Odyssey. Just having extra health doesn’t change the fact that you still need to possess certain skills to beat a boss or any other challenge. I mean, what you’re saying is basically equivalent to saying that it’s cheating in Breath of the Wild to have Link keep eating…
Too*, damnit! I really hate that I can’t edit posts here.
If that’s “breaking the game” then so are the infinite 1-up tricks that have been in Mario games since the very beginning. And so are warps and most items of various types. That’s the thing about Mario games- they can be as easy or as hard as you personally want them to be. If you want a more difficult experience, you…
God damn I love that saxophone at the beginning of these podcasts. It tricks my brain into thinking it’s watching TGIF circa 1992, which obviously is a good mental state to be in.
Yeah, that’s a good point about L.A. Noire’s animations. And good points about everything else. You no doubt know a lot more about it than I do, since I’m not actually a game developer. I’m a backend web-dev and I do other freelance programming here and there, but I’ve recently started dicking around with game…
Right, but like I said, Nintendo has the time and resources to optimize ports for their own systems, which they obviously understand better than third-parties and have the latest/best dev kits for. And you’re talking about taking a game from one system over to just one other system, as opposed to several other systems…
I think it’s more an issue of Nintendo setting out from the start to develop their games with as little raw data as possible, and then of course building the game natively for a system that they have intimate knowledge of allows them to tailor it to that machine’s requirements/capabilities. Multiplats don’t really…
I don’t think the genre is dead, I just think PS4 isn’t a friendly platform for those types of games. Bring it to Switch and people would by the hell out of it.
