I'm 22 and I go to a very hip school in a very hip city. So, for example, instead of brand name clothing I see a lot of secondhand thrift shop stuff clothing. Devotion to giant corporations is unfashionable. So maybe my sample population is not indicative of larger trends.
Well I agree with your main point, about obsolescence.
You do realize that they do stop putting out updates for those devices over time
I was just gonna make this comment. I'm still using my iPhone 3GS and it works fine. It's still exactly what I purchased (except for the scratches and broken home button).
I'm actually designing a light game right now, and it doesn't have a female protagonist.
Looks sweet. Reminds me of Brave.
I thought it was Disney World with the giant network of underground rooms and halls.
What's so bad about a bill directing an investigation of the effects of video games on children? I don't see any violation of anyone's freedoms. Granted that's probably the next step, but if the Kotaku community is so confident that games don't make people more violent, then why are we upset about a little research?
Wii box art, from their front page:
Does anyone know of any good snap-on covers for 3DS XL? I was thinking of getting the pink XL (because it has a white interior) and then snapping on a faceplate over the pink (for my manliness).
These are really cool. Much better than those faux vintage screen-printed posters everybody is doing lately.
Looks really cool. Does anyone else think $7000 isn't nearly enough though? I guess I don't know how much they already have done, but damn.
Oh yeah? Well Trace Memory had a puzzle that was solved by closing the DS to a roughly 45 degree angle. There was a folding two-panel photo frame sitting on a table, and when you inspected it up close, your DS "became" the photo frame. Then, by adjusting the angle of your DS, you could see the top screen reflected in…
With PseudoHermes in this fateful hour, I call upon all heaven with its power! And the sun with its brightness, and the snow with its whiteness! And the fire with all the strength it hath, and the lightning with its rapid wrath!
Read my post again, you misunderstood me. I know why they use resistive screens over capacitive screens, and I'm glad that they do. My point was that Nintendo is wisely selective with new technologies. So, just because a technology is new (Oculus Rift) doesn't mean Nintendo is into it. You have to evaluate it first -…
No. Nintendo doesn't do that. They always do what they can to make their products different from the competition, even when it really looks like their product was inspired by another product.
But they don't embrace all new gameplay ideas. They're selective and only go forward with a technology if they think it has a future in games. For example, they continue to ignore capacitive touchscreen technology while everyone else has long embraced it.
How the hell does it look like an iPad? It's a chunky square plastic wedge. It's designed and marketed specifically to young children because it's cheaper and sturdier without the hinge. Everything else about it comes from the DS form factor, which was released about 3 years before the iPhone and 6 years before the…
Wow... I'm truly shocked. That's simply unprecedented. Can anyone think of any other product that does this? Anyways, if it saves them money, good for them. I sort of wish I didn't know about it though. Makes me feel weird. Like when you know someone's lying to you.
