Three years ago, before my son was born, I would have been like: "Damn, that cat is the shit!"

Hey, I'm right there with you - but the sweep doesn't bother me much, we put up one heck of a fight even though that won't be obvious in the record books.
Trust me, I'm flirting with the idea. My pediatrician said that while no vaccine is foolproof, if my son does contract something from the other boy then the illness would be far less potent that it would be if my son were not vaccinated. She also said to avoid bringing my son if the other boy is sick. That's not very…
My son (2 and a half years old) is in a playgroup and one dad is a big anti-vaxxer. Whenever he talks about it I just grunt and try to change the subject because I want to be civil but he finally point-blank asked me what I thought about vaccines. I told him that I don't want my son to get polio. At some point in the…
As a North Carolinian, let me tell you that we're working on fixing that. We (liberals) took a beating in the last election and our legislature has been a nightmare.
Agreed.
My son and I are part of a playgroup and one dad is a big anti-vaxxer - I don't even necessarily think it's because of autism but simply because he thinks it's some sort of scam run by pharmaceutical companies. He recently told me that most of the illnesses for which children are vaccinated were beginning to disappear…
I teach English at a community college near one of the largest Army bases in the country. Each semester I teach a course on base at an education annex to soldiers who are working on various degrees. Maybe an hour ago I got home from my English 112 (Argument-based Research) class where I'd had this exact discussion…
Working title: Bourgeois Tourist vs the Working Stiff. Tehe.
Oh my gosh it's Rowsdower! You Canadian supermacho man!
Had it been solely a Muppets thing, or a different celebrity, I probably would have watched. I just find Lady Gaga super dull - but it's all gravy.
Walking through a bookstore I saw this weight tome and for giggles I thought I'd read a page or two at random - I can't get the rancid smell of it out of my eyes.
I went to this museum back in 2009 when visiting Seattle and will be returning to the city this coming summer - looks like I know what I'll be doing!
Myrtle Beach, SC - an island.
"The scientists know very well" - I love that part. "The scientists" - as if scientists are some monolithic body dedicated to obfuscating Truth. Bolivia's president has no more insight into the future of our world than the rest of us, and we're the only ones who can save us from ourselves.
I'm in - we'd finally be able to watch all of the Doctor Who clips from the BBC that are currently denied us.
One of the reasons I love io9 so much is the fact that the discussion that precedes my comment is civil (though tinged with anger, certainly) and not in all caps.
It's amazing how fast the lunar colony idea has come back to being taken seriously. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining and I love the idea - but the space program is riddled with unrealized visions and promises unfulfilled.
Love you for this.
