Wait until you realize how many insults are based on stigmatizing the disabled. It's truly insane—er, ridiculous. (I still use many ableist insults unconsciously, but I'm making a conscious effort to use non-ableist ones now!)

Elegant idea, but I'd say it's a meaningless distinction. There's no reality that exists "outside" of culture. A fetus will be treated differently depending on what sex it is defined as. Even before person is conceived, they will be thought of differently. Their entire existence, from before conception to after death,…
"When you talk about "forever alone" bullshit, you should also point out that no one "deserves" or "is owed" a relationship."
The point about "feminism" linguistically excluding genderqueer people, and is the subject of much criticism—from feminists and other social justice activists. Contemporary feminism is not the second-wave movement of 50 years ago.
"I think they use pretty white women to imply "ANY woman can make this horrible mistake!" because a pretty white woman is the "every woman" and everyone else is an OTHER (to society)."
If they're being oppressed for those fetishes, then I'd consider them an oppressed minority. Not sure they are, though.
Don't think that's too surprising. A lot of my friends like BSG, but can't stand the original series. And I don't blame them; the original BSG was terrible.
Isn't the problem actually the opposite? People are dying because of the assumption that the diseases present the same way in males and females. Instead, doctors SHOULD be differentiating symptoms by sex. At least, that's how I read it.
Aw, I love Miller. Used to drink it all the time in college (ironically, but still).
Coors and Coors Light.
I actually love that idea. The tradition will collapse under its own weight!
To be fair, Slate will consistently publish "edgy" counter-intuitive arguments about anything, not just feminism. That's their whole shtick.
"Isn't it possible to make the progress of working class women a goal whether they are feminists or not, and also applaud the Marissa Mayers"
Yup.
And thank goodness for whatever anonymous individual was brave enough to leak this to the paper.
Yeah, that scares me the most. The fact that the Women's Center cares more about protecting the college's reputation than protecting women...
"Men who have the capacity to commit rape"
Gender equality doesn't trump culture, because the two are not opposed. You're comparing apples and oranges.
"Frankly, it's seen as bad if you mess with another countries culture regardless if you have a distaste for it."
All labels are pretty problematic. I generally identify as a feminist (and certainly do so in domestic political contexts), even though I disagree with a lot of discourses on global feminism. Read the link that alphnumericiPhobic shared. I think X_SOLDIER also brings up a great point, that "feminism" as a word tends…
