I am so utterly charmed by the two seasons I've seen of this show (just finished the one on PBS last night! Yay Nadiya!). There's so much to love, but I think my absolute favorite part is that they are literally competing for a cake stand. That's the prize! I love it.

I think he must be guest starring on the next season of The Mindy Project.

Agreed. Sometimes I get annoyed by how miscast she is in his movies (I get that she was supposed to be some young trophy wife in American Hustle but I still found her age really jarring), but then I remember that it’s David O. Russell’s fault, not hers.

Yeah, it’s a bit funny that he turns down an invite to address the NAACP where he could, yknow, directly tell the black community about how he will help (I use this term loosely) them and instead gives these speeches with nary a POC in sight. I think the person above has it right. All the white rally attendees are

This has been my experience as well — verbal offer followed by letter outlining salary details and job duties to sign by me and the employer.

Same! We have one of those digital antenna deals for getting the super basic channels, but almost never use it. I flipped on NBC last night to watch the Olympics and felt perplexed by the amount of commercials. Back to streaming I go!

Apparently you can buy (or make) vegan fish sauce. I haven’t looked into it too much because I’m not veg, but I’ve definitely seen recipes that are otherwise veg mention using vegan fish sauce in place of regular in order to make the recipe fully veg.

I really don’t understand it. Every post a R+F “consultant” makes, the only other people who comment on it are other consultants. I have several friends posting on FB nonstop about it and I almost never see anyone who isn’t affiliated with it asking about the products. I assume people must be buying it, but the posts

It’s funny to me, I definitely thought that way the entire time I was taking math classes in high school and college. Could not possibly fathom how I would ever use it in “real life.” Lo and behold, I now work for a state legislature doing budget work where I do math every day and have even had to string together a

They used to have that show! Design on a Dime. The reno had to be done for under $1000. I’m guessing it’s no longer on the air though.

Ugh, the marble. We are re-doing our kitchen right now and because I am basic and easily swayed by the internet, I loooove how marble looks and desperately wanted it. Thankfully, the practical side of my brain won out and we ended up with a quartz that if you squint, basically looks like marble.

It is so difficult to wrap my head around how many folks on that show have a budget (INCLUDING RENO!) of $100-125k and come out with a totally gorgeous house.

We don’t have cable so we have to turn to Netflix for our home show fix and I can’t watch more than 2-3 in a row because it’s especially painful and repetitive without any commercials to break up the recapping.

Oh god, I’m sitting here nervously eying the opening of where we just took the wall down between our kitchen and living room two weeks ago as part of our reno. I will say though, our house is pretty small (just shy of 900 sq feet) and not having the wall makes it look SO MUCH BIGGER. Although with such a small house,

I think she even pointed to it in her speech, when she said she wasn’t great at the “public” part of public policy. I’m okay with it.

So truly brave for him to be able to say those words out loud. A real American hero.

What if we already own a house and can comfortably afford both an engagement ring AND a vacation? Am I allowed to want a ring then?

Oops, I meant the Kat Von D brand vs. Stila. I haven't tried Smashbox yet, though I have wanted to. Do you have a recommendation for an every day Smashbox color? So far most of mine are reds and berry that I only use a few times a month.

Right?! Elijah Cummings, of all people? Come onnnnn.

I've tried both and prefer the Stila formula. On my lips, it's a bit less drying and the minimal fading looked a little more even to me.
