I agree, this is a bit of counterintuitive thinking, but I am coming around to it. The narrower ice may actually lead to more scoring chances, not fewer. I haven’t seen the data on that though.
It’s actually shots (good ones) that are the exciting part of the game. I have no problem with a 1-0 game, if the low score is due to great goaltending. The trap / lock and the clutch & grab were boring because they reduced scoring chances, not because they reduced scoring.
