I like Jon, but this is par for the course with him. I think he’s a phenomenal critic of the media, but is much worse as a political pundit, especially when he tries to engage in good faith with his bad faith sparring partners from the right. It’s very cringe-worthy, and only gets moreso as the climate continues to

I love trailers (like a lot of people), but there is a saturation point. I’ve been to the theater 2-3 times since the pandemic, and each time have been surprised at how much foreplay there is between the lights dimming and the movie starting. 3-4 long ads, then ~7-8 trailers. It’s an easy 20-25 minutes.

I wish to live in your dream world, sir!

People are ignoring Lower Decks? It got five seasons and a SNW crossover that sent people into paroxysms of joy.

He is great on Lower Decks. Lower decks, in general, is a lot of fun and a surprise. People shit on Discovery(unfairly imho) and Picard(fairly there, especially season 2) but they ignored both Lower Decks and Prodigy and both of those are solid additions to the Star Trek Cannon. Season 2 of Prodigy even has a line

“he ‘was able to get representation pretty early on, and that’s more than half the battle.’

With most other nepo baby actors, I would dismiss this out of hand as a slightly more sophisticated PR tactic...

I like going to the movies, so, selfishly, I hope theaters survive. But I think audiences have made pretty clear that there are really only a handful of movies per year that they’re willing to pay for a full theatrical experience to see. And I don’t think that makes them assholes or philistines.

The Netflix model was not the problem.

It’s genuinely mysterious to me why streaming companies that have spent significant amounts of money making movies (Netflix spent ~$166m on Rebel Moon) they don’t put those in theaters first with the promise that the only place you will be able to watch it once it leaves theaters is on their streaming service.

Hopefully this deal means it’s safe from WBD’s clutches.

Get ready for Extreme 90-Day Ice Road Klingon House Flippers! Starring Chip and Joanna Gaines!

Certainly more promising than Zaslav getting his filthy mitts on the franchise.

that came decades after a perfect ending in Last Crusade

Well, technically speaking, not *now* Run the Series. I did two of them last month!

Crystal Skull did $300 million domestic in 2008 — it made about the same as Iron Man — so I’d say there was a fair amount of demand there. It certainly wasn’t because there was wildly positive buzz about the movie (though I do think the “people hate this one” generalization is a total internet-era exaggeration).

Maybe

We’ll have to agree to strongly disagree that Temple of Doom is a better movie than Last Crusade. ToD had some good action sequences but the rest was cringingly bad. When I saw it in the theater in its first run, I was so hype after the clever opening sequence and was gutted by how bad it was after that.

This is the stupidest non story of the year. Jetlagged guy with a stutter acts like jetlagged guy with a stutter during a debate with a 34-count convicted felon serial sexual predator who has declared he intends to be a dictator and replace all remaining government officials with his hand-picked cronies, and this
