They’ve also overcompensated with episode runtime that run an hour or more, which can make for some screwy pacing. I don’t miss ads, but I think there’s value to having restrictions.

It also gives us more down time to spend with the characters when not everything is high-stakes drama. It fleshed out the characters and world, and made the bigger crises matter more.

I would argue almost the exact opposite. A lot of genre shows were at their best because they had to be creative working within a limited budget. And a lot of great episodes were the one-offs and standalones.

I’m of the opinion that Peak TV is behind us and this is one of the reasons why. I have a hard time investing in a lot of new shows these days because they run for only 8-10 episodes, there’s so much time between seasons, and anything with potential is canceled after two seasons because streaming executives won’t take

I honestly don’t go through games at a fast enough clip to feel like any kind of service would be worth it. I’d like to chalk it up to getting older, but I think I might have always been that way. I don’t know...I just like to savor my games.

I’m pretty slow at getting through games, and usually only buy maybe a couple dozen a year. And owning my own copy (especially physical over digital if I can - I have patiently waited all these months for the BGIII disc release) is a big deal for me. So I just really can’t see the appeal of something like GamePass for

Why won’t these stupid humans stop trying to get themselves killed so I can please just get back to watching Sanctuary Moon???

Imo, I wouldn’t even have put Spider-man 2 in the running here. It inspired some excitement back half of the year, but even then the dialogue (positive and negative) didn’t inspire anywhere near what the likes of TotK, BGIII, Alan Wake 2, and Starfield did.

Okay but ‘Those Old Scientists’ and ‘Subspace Rhapsody’ are legitimately two of the greatest episodes Star Trek has ever done.

All right, favorite Captain Holt moments.

And Lance Reddick... :(:(

Imo, The Expanse is right up there with BSG and DS9 as all-time greatest scifi tv series.

Oh, I like that a lot!

I’m a huge fan of The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, in part because it solidified my love for the series, and I feel like they’re a bit unappreciated.

That moment traumatized me for a month.

Iirc, Patty Jenkins was supposed to direct The Dark World, but that fell through and she left Marvel, and so Portman wanted out. But she was contractually obligated to stay. It’s not a huge surprise she’s kind of phoning in her performance a bit.

I know I’m in the minority, but I prefer Thor’s character pre-Waititi. I know Chris Hemsworth has a lot more fun with him, but I don’t necessarily think it’s a better presentation of the character. (It didn’t help that Love and Thunder kind of just had to repeat the same beats of supposed character growth.)

It was the post-Sam-and-Diane problem. How do you keep a couple dramatically interesting once they’re together? Lots of immature drama!

Chandler and Monica as a couple has held up really well in retrospect. It’s like the writers wanted to go in the completely opposite direction of Ross and Rachel and so made a really mature, loving, supportive relationship.

I friggin' love 12 Monkeys. It is the most I've ever enjoyed being upset and disturbed by a movie.
