We are going to keep going, we are always peaceful. People just want to be heard and things get out of control when the cops start displaying aggression. It's hard for the situation not to spiral when you have hundreds of people being ambushed by pepper spray and sound cannons in the street.

How about we don't wash it out and let all this anger trickle off? How about we let ourselves be upset and angry and channel it into change? Get out there, protest, write your representatives, donate money to the families. Help bring about a small measure of justice. I promise, that will feel better than meaningless

I hate co-opting posts, but please, can you guys cover the ongoing protests in NYC? An LRAD sound cannon was turned on peaceful protesters last night, hundreds of us were arrested, many were sprayed with pepper spray, and hundreds more were shoved around by the cops, pushed to the ground, intimidated, and chased down

I was there for most of the night. When the arrests started, I was shoved to the ground by an NYPD officer and kicked. My ankle gave out and I couldn't walk anymore so I had to leave. The only reason I was even allowed to go is because I'm white. These protestors are peaceful, smart, and devoted to justice. I hope

Wait, why didn't the plane just take off? I hate the world.

I don't love what Bette said but I do miss the days when the people on top of the charts didn't suck so bad and just roll around naked all the time. Carole King 5eva.

I don't get why people have a problem with her nudity, it's not really our place to make judgments on her parenting ability or anything like that over this. However, I wish we could just call her what she is. A porn star. She's famous for her sex tape and her body, primarily, and there's nothing wrong with that, but

Yeah, it's definitely fair to judge someone's performance of a song on their very first night of their Broadway debut off of a crap quality bootleg. I hate that Jezebel doesn't seem to have anyone who knows anything about Broadway writing about it.

Yeah. I'm sure some of us who were raised with parents who found their children to be a nuisance that got in the way of their careers were never, ever negatively affected by their parents' choice to be super, super busy all the time and drop their kids with somebody else for most of their childhood.

Ugh, Faith Prince. Talk about scenery chewing in the bad way. I'm so excited this is being made, but the last reading of it was pretty bad. I hope they've made a lot of changes since then.

I really don't understand the people saying everyone who is weirded by this secretly has a similar story or is pearl-clutching hypocritically? Idk, I never did anything sexual with any of my friends, siblings, or family members growing up. Maybe I was just a more restrained child in terms of my sexual expression at a

Anything, ANYTHING is better than Carrie Underwood in a dirndl yodeling through Rodgers & Hammerstein.

That is totally entirely possible.

Maybe I misread your tone and if I did, I'm sorry, but your first few sentences came off very hostile to me.

Did I say it was just NYC? No, I didn't. NY is my home so I'm speaking from my experience, obviously there isn't anywhere on earth that isn't changed by the passage of time. I'm also referring to neighborhoods, especially in the boroughs, that tend to be places where families live who have lived in those places for

Who's blaming any one individual person? I'm blaming those in power. I'm blaming the institutions. People are very susceptible to belief systems and it's human nature to want to believe in a higher power. I happen to think it's bullshit but there isn't a world in which anybody can change millions of peoples' minds

You can't just ignore the negative effects organized religion has on people by claiming that many individuals are not part of the "problem". That's completely absurd. There are also, clearly, a great many people who are the problem. And I don't hear the leaders of any of those faiths supporting a woman's right to

Also, it's "barely valid" to say religions still oppress women? What world do you live in? In my world, a woman is sentenced to death for defending herself against her rapist in the Middle East, the Christian right is actively working towards (and succeeding) eliminating a woman's right to make decisions about her own

I'm not planning on stopping people from practicing their religion, nor did I ever suggest that I would. But I'm allowed my belief which is that religion is oppressive, based on mountains of unprovable bullshit and fables borrowed from civilizations that pre-date the development of the religions that we still have

And Islam, right now, is the religion that we are most embroiled in conflict with. If this were during the Crusades, I'm sure his rants would be different.
