I see them opening for The Decemberists.

Great point. As a political scientist I see such a term as almost giving legitimately to misfits and the lunatic racist fringe. It is also being used to lump in legitimate viewpoints (nationalism isn’t neccesairly a bad thing, see civic nationalism) with the worst of the worst.

Look, Hillary Clinton was a terrific student, and would no doubt have carved out a fine career in something whether or not she ever met Bill. However, without his actual career she probably wouldn’t be running for president now. It was Bill’s charisma that registered with voters and built the Clinton brand. In fact,

While that sounds good in a lot of respects, one thing this election cycle has made me appreciate is the vetting process that comes from being so long. In a shorter cycle there is a chance that someone like Trump is able to get swift momentum and hold it together just long enough to make it over the finish line.

But on the plus side. it drags the ENTIRE right down with them.

But the problem in general with our election-news system and especially Trump, is that it's presented as if it was for our entertainment.

How about the Alt-Reich?

I think the reason HRC used that term is so people AREN’T fooled and understand fully what it really means. Since it’s already in the lexicon, she’s doing everything she can to associate it with racism, misogyny, and hate, vs. all the “freedom” shit they spew from their end.

Yeah, the Donald is unfit for the office. But something about Hillary sticks in my craw. I guess it’s my feeling that she manipulates so much. For example, during the Convention she made such a hubbub about smashing through the glass ceiling. I was thinking, you, like George Bush, were born on third base and think

You must not have noticed which comment I was responding to. Specifically:

If he ditches they should put the libertarian guy in his place.

This! If MRA types can call radical (and not so radical) feminists feminazis, why not call their friends the conservanazis? Okay, maybe it doesn’t have the best ring, but we can come up with something.

That’s more or less the point, though. The idea behind this speech was to frame Trump as a fringe movement of the party that “regular” Republicans would never want to associate with. If the alt-right lashes out, it only illustrates her point and makes the regular right want to pull away from the lunatic fringe.

Someone I follow on Twitter (I think Noah Garfinkel) said today “if we’re going to accept the phrase ‘alt-right,’ can we start calling Cosby an ‘alt pharmacist’?”

What on earth are you on about? I was not/am not a Bernerista. If there was any group I was more tired of by the end of the primaries, it was that one.

Yes, but when Trump gets mad he does stupid stuff like attacking the Khans. Making him lose his temper is a good thing.

Yeah someone was saying up thread that these brietbart assholes will love being called out by “shillary” and it fits right into their narrative.

I’m saying don’t be shocked when tomorrow the wounded bears lash out. Be prepared.

She’s calling him and his supporters out, and the racist media personalities, but they’re like wounded animals lashing out now. This was a good speech and it will make their heads blow off. Everyone needs to be prepared. Any of us who spend time on the internet already know this.

Trump: “I’ve made a lot of bigoted remarks, got sued by the DoJ for housing discrimination, called on the first black president to release his college transcripts and birth certificate. Magic 8 ball, what should I do to protect myself from accusations of racism?”
