Eh, I think there’s very different arguments to be made if we’re judging an era based on appliance cars, mid-range sports cars, or supercars. And also what aspects of “design” we’re focusing on.

Yeah I wouldn’t put it past them to just pocket the cleaning fee without doing the cleaning and let the next customer take it or leave it. Then the next person to check the car after a return reports the smell of smoke and the cycle continues.
For street courses, the roads are closed to the public during the event, so there’s not really a regulatory issue there. They are temporarily made into a closed circuit for the event.
Is this “Vulcanol” any different than standard methanol, or is this just meaningless hype?
I always thought one of the main obstacles to having a US WRC event was vehicle import laws. F1 and WEC can do US events because they’re explicitly race cars for use only on closed circuits, but as I recall WRC is different because of the transit stages. The cars need to be road legal and drive on public roads from…
It also costs a ridiculous amount of time & effort to trade down a car.
Oh for sure, Elon is full of shit, Tesla’s ‘FSD’ promises are lies, we won’t have a production self-driving car for ten years or more, and these intermediate steps are only breeding dangerous complacency.
I drove to & from Chicago from DC a couple weeks ago. I would have loved to play videogames for 12 hours instead of doing the driving. Or even have it drive overnight while I slept and showed up 12 hours earlier.
They’re disincentivized. If the globe heats up and the oceans evaporate, that’s more land they get to manage!!
Yeah, this can definitely be a straw breaking a camel’s back type of situation. Like the scene in Falling Down where he holds up a McDonald’s-type joint with an Uzi just so he can be allowed to order breakfast after 10:30 am, then pays with exact change.
If I recall correctly, as little as 2 gees applied toward your head for any length of time can easily kill you. It’s referred to as “red-out” and you’ll just stroke out. All the little capillaries in your brain are not very strong.
Mainly, it’s not large enough to offset people’s concerns about their penis size.
Man, I wish it just had a thousand more lbs towing capacity! That would be perfect for towing around race cars. As it is I can *probably* get away with it with lighter cars & trailers, but 5000-6000 lbs is ideal. I guess that just means I should buy an F-150 instead.
There’s a couple gifs from The Expanse I could post here...
assuming that the thrust won’t exceed the grip of your tires or the surface you’re on
Racing drivers pretty regularly survive 60 g crashes with all their safety gear. Even that level can easily be life-threatening though, so let’s use that number. Quick napkin math says accelerating at 60 g gets you to 1315 mph in one second, or 0-60 in 0.045 seconds.
I wish they’d put the F-Type V8 in the XF Sportbrake.
Fully agree. Turn all the commuter appliances into electric cars, and gas goes down to $1.50 because demand is reduced. 1% of people driving their fun cars 2000 miles a year isn’t going to harm anything a significant amount.
If I ever find myself in parking garages I like to just sit revving the engine for a little bit.
I was cross-shopping the V8 Vantage and DB9 and had to go with the DB9 for the V12 engine. All it took was starting each engine once, and I made up my mind, “V12 please.”
