I was really impressed, actually, that the City Council recently passed a law saying that local schools can't have offensive names or mascots referencing racial groups. They realized that they can't make the case to change the team name when local schools do it too. So Anacostia has to get a new mascot, but it's

I spent the last 30 minutes trying to find a clip of that scene from Strangers with Candy where Jerri gloriously unfurls a huge glittery banner that says "Jerri Blank is a stupid whore" in an attempt to preempt some boys from unveiling their weak little sign that says the same. The Googles have failed me.

Right? You know that shit was coming out of his pores. Yuck.

Then they can charge the customers for it, to incentivize cash payment. Charging the servers who have no choice in the matter is ridiculous.

A friend was volunteering for a campaign to get paid sick time required for restaurant workers in DC. Most arguments for it made no difference to people, until they started asking people if they wanted sick restaurant employees handling their food. That's the only thing that seemed to change minds!

It didn't work out well for you, but it sure did for that rural student.

they live in a world where the only reason anyone is doing anything at any time is that it is the exact thing they choose to be doing?

They expect people to not share appetizers? Isn't that what appetizers are for?!

Or water with sugar, and LOTS of lemons.

I have the copper one. I wouldn't recommend it if you get bad cramps, because this one tends to make them worse. I never had any before and I get them now, but they're not terrible, just a learning of curve of figuring out how to deal with them. Other than that, I love it, and I tell myself the cramps are nothing

I thought I heard that Guy wasn't much for the gays. Or people who like real food. I'm confused about their strategy.

No clue. It was one of those maps without country names on them but color coded for what we talking about and she just kept pointing at the wrong thing and saying "As you can see, in China..." To be fair, her research focus isn't China, but it's still important (and big) enough she should be able to find it on a map

One of my professors - in a masters-level course of international studies - was totally unable to find China on a map during her lecture. She managed to hit on Russia, India, and Mongolia before a student just identified it for her. It's not like China is important internationally anyway.

And the people organizing the workers know it too. That's why when the whole thing started, people were going, "$15?! For flipping burgers?!" but really, if they'd asked for 10, they'd be lucky to get 8. Ask for 15, and 10 looks a lot more reasonable. Basic negotiation techniques.

I think they're throwing a bone so the workers will drop the unionizing efforts.

It certainly was.

I was in my fav bar once when the episode where he "renovated" that exact bar came on. It had since reverted back to its original model after his revamp bombed.

I've only heard it used as a slur against cis women (me in particular), from gay men and a straight guy that watched a lot of Ru Paul's Drag Race and thought that gave him the right to use it as an "honorary gay" or some bullshit. Not in the interest of arguing with you, but sharing how it's used in my experience.

Exactly. The heart was for the beer he likes so much. Zero thought taken to what domestic violence is or how it affects people. Still fucking stupid, though.
