The Zune is better is so many ways than the iPod. Don't judge until you have extensively used both devices. Honestly the only thing that Apple does better in this regard is marketing their device. the Zune HD makes the iPod Touch look like a walkman.

He probably intends for this kids to use that $10mil to find whatever projects or future companies that they might want to start. That way they can earn their own income while helping grow the economy, not just become leaches like many rich kids.

You can buy "water globes" that are the exact same thing (only don't look like trash) for $2-3. They also look more attractive and less like you are decorating your garden with garbage. You probably can't make these coke-bottle watering devices for less than that.
