Just saying, this is always my favorite post on here. I use it to add to my Goodreads Want to Read shelf.
To make Mystery Men and enjoyable movie, you must first enjoy the movie that is a mystery.
Yeah, I’m a bit tired of the whole Dumbledore routine myself. It feels like a cheap way for studios to have their cake and eat it too.
Oh, please, then. Enlighten me. When Mal calls Inara a whore, and she says, “I told you never to call me that,” and he does it again, what about that shows respect for her as a person?
I may be alone in this, but I really don’t want more‘Firefly’. I feel like the show hasn’t aged well, what with the dodgy sexual politics involving Inara (look, it’s so funny that Mal doesn’t respect her boundaries or decisions and constantly demeans and belittles her!) and the weird Lost Cause subtext (but if, if the…

The problem I immediately had as soon as this show was announced: 2 dudes who had much to do with GoT’s excessive reliance upon female nudity as a vehicle to grab attention rather than drive plot, cheerfully serving up horrific escalating sexual violence and refusing to back down until a swath of the viewership…
What also gives me pause is that Weiss and Benioff actually managed to (needlessly, imo) increase the brutality against women in GoT. Think on that: they out-Martined Martin. (And that’s not even touching on the needless objectification of women, using more boobs than the story requires to snatch more viewers.)
Besson is one of those guys you just can’t imagine ever reading a book. Like any real narrative depth is 100% secondary to cool images, even if they mean basically nothing.
