Agreed, I see you going after some dog nonsense in another thread. Totally meaningless in an objective sense but gets people all worked up nonetheless. And many of these same people get their dogs from puppy mills. Humans: they’re really not as smart as they think they are.

Ha yeah I was ignoring him until others started to reply, then I took the bait. I’d love to see these asshats cite a single time in human history when we didn’t have babies born at the wrong time to the wrong people. Like, just accept it! Babies, sex and bad decisions should be minimized yes, but they will always be

It’s not much of a difference, but so telling that people ever decided to use “sacrificed” in the first place. I remember it being a big deal at the sci journal where I worked when we made the change.

I think we can all agree that mice are less important than humans, especially from our perspective, but arguably even from an objective perspective. I am not averse to the notion of testing very important things on animals in order to see if they can benefit us humans, but it’s ridiculous to assert that animals are

I don’t blame scientists for things like that and I agree the field, financially speaking, is fucked up in ways which are very unfair to them, not to mention counterproductive. I’m glad you treated those mice with some semblance of respect, but I thought using the term “sacrificed” had gone out of fashion? Isn’t

Haha I guess you’d know. Enjoy your hate-filled day.

I think a lot can be and has been accomplished through those routes, but all the same I am all for scaling back animal testing and moving to other models wherever it is possible, and leaving animals as an emergency option only.

I am US based. Also I would boldly state that there is a world of difference between how things are mandated to be done, and how they are actually done in every research facility. We’ve had instances of I guess you could call it “corruption” among lab vets who are assigned to monitor animal care. That can’t possibly

Not sadists, just callous and self-serving. It’s very common actually, researchers are constantly arguing with each other over it, always on the grounds that they are poaching the other’s work or what have you. It’s well known. People need to get paid and they don’t always have a really top notch excuse to be engaging

Huh?

Yeah, since it’s either this or that. We can only do one.

Me too

Pain free is not the same as cruelty free.

You cannot do most research in cruelty free way. If you actually could, there’d be nothing stopping us from conducting all of it on humans. It’s always an ethical compromise which is why it should be taken much much more seriously than it is.

Of course, because animals in the care of humans always receive the best of care. And there are no examples of animal negligence or abuse in the field of research. Oh wait, no and no.

And thank god for that :)

Rodents are actually a great model for humans biologically. Strange but true. Believe me if they could justify a few more years of grant money to repeat the same tests on ever larger animals they would. Already scientists are constantly applying for grants to do research which has essentially already been done before,

Maybe we should go further and discourage dump PEOPLE. Via some sort of genetic-based standard for who gets sterilized and who doesn’t. And I elect Donald Trump to be the decider.

Learn from me if/when you have kids: Don’t be polite when people say inappropriate shit to them, it will only escalate. You should basically rip the heads off any grown man who makes any comment on your daughter’s looks. Show her how it’s done.

It’s amazing to me how much some people can attach their happiness to the attention of a significant other. Like it’s the kind of basic need that would make sacrificing your childrens’ well-being understandable. And these dudes were old, ugly and stupid. Come on! They should have at least been rich or hot to make it
