There's a condition called Psychotic Pregnancy Denial, where the woman becomes so convinced they aren't pregnant they'll go to great lengths to hide their pregnancy. In extreme cases they'll even kill the infant after giving birth. It's pretty creepy stuff.

People make fun of CNN for this very thing all the time on Jez and Gawker especially since their never-ending missing airplane search where they literally asked if it could be a black hole and had "breaking news" telling viewers nothing new for days on end while barely covering actual news stories.

I never thought about it, just a sort of tempered reaction to anything that might be a Canadian kind of thing.
