That “criss cross applesauce” thing really bothers me. Why is “cross legged” bad? Every time I hear “criss cross applesauce” I want to set things on fire.

One doesn’t need to have had sex with someone of the same sex to identify as bi. If you’re sexually attracted to males and females alike (for the purposes of simplicity I’ll just stick with the traditional binary crap in this comment), you can identify as bisexual even if you’ve only ever had sex with the opposite…
I don’t cook because I lazy. Also I live alone, and my outlook is that it’s pointless to spend more time preparing something than it does to eat it when it’s just for me. Super easy things to “cook”:
A lot of people have good recs, but I gotta include a shout-out to america’s test kitchen. If you follow the directions, it WILL turn out right (even complicated baking things).
Minimalist Baker! The recipes all take under 30 minutes and I think they’re all under 7 ingredients. As an example, they have a shepherd’s pie and one of the ingredients is a bag of mixed frozen vegetables. Fool proof.
Casseroles! I am a terrible cook, but casserole recipes are invariably easy. Its like “pour some stuff in this pan and bake it for this amount of time” easy. I’d just google “easy casseroles” and almost never go wrong that way.
Hi! I work as a cook, so my friends ask me this question a lot. I know you said that you are looking for books, but if you’re able to, check out this website! It’s called Budget Bytes. It’s super handy; I use it for ideas for a lot of home meals. Best of luck to you!
Decent eye of round roast. Crock pot. Put some sliced portabellas and slices of onions on the bottom of the crock pot. Put roast in. Salt, pepper, small amount of red wine over roast. Flip roast. Salt, pepper, small amount red wine over this side. Maybe a little Worcestershire sauce or a little soy sauce. Low heat for…
Mark Bitmman’s cookbook How to Cook Everything. It is what the title says. A really great basic. You can buy it as a physical book or an iPad app (which I love, because easily searchable).
The Joy of Cooking is like my bible of cooking. The vichyssoise (potato leek) soup is so simple but tastes like you spent effort making it. I add in parmesan cheese.
My go-to recommendation for new cooks is Everyday Food: Great Food Fast. It is put out by Martha Stewart Living.
Summer time, so I say master the grill and some homemade salad dressings. You can possibly screw up salad dressing. Grills only look intimidating. Don’t be afraid! Salmon is my favourite thing to throw on there. You need some awesome cold salads - pesto, maybe a peanut-asian noodle salad, lime cilantro quinoa is good.…
CROCK POT. I am not the most gourmet cook out there but you can make seriously amazing things with the crock pot that are so easy. Provided you have one, of course. If you don’t, I’d say it’s a worthy investment! I have America’s Test Kitchen Slow Cooker Revolution and it’s great.
When I moved out on my own and thought I should probably learn how to feed myself, I got a copy of a book called Help! My Apartment Has a Kitchen. It’s the most basic, gentle cookbook you can get. It was written by a mom and her son, and includes helpful mom tips like “this is where you’ll find cornstarch in the…
I grew up surrounded by the Catholic guilt business, and had to deal with people being nosy/judgmental about my decisions as a late bloomer. Don’t let anyone push their opinions/feelings about your sexual choices on you and make you feel bad or wrong, because they don’t know what is best for you, only you do.
Google. That’s really all you need. Basic meat is much easier to cook than people make it out to be, it’s usually something along the lines of putting the meat in the oven @ X degrees for Y minutes, or possibly frying it (like eggs). I’d go with chicken or beef. Beef takes a little more work than chicken, but it’s…
I think this was one of the first if not THE first cookbook I bought. It’s basically written by this dude and his mom for when he finally got his own place and had to learn to cook for himself. I grew up with parents who were both terrible cooks, bless their hearts. So I (and the food network) taught myself a lot when…
I’m very sorry for your loss. I have two young cats and I am dreading the day that they will pass. I can only imagine how you feel. You were able to give him a good home and a long and happy life— what more could any cat ask for? Eventually you won’t be so sad and you can feel happy that you had the chance to brighten…
