@Blotter: Meh. hard drives aren't gonna be that bugged anyways. I've never had a problem with magnets, and I've tempted fate a few times. I also would recommend shielded speakers to everyone.

Sadly this is country-dependent. In england people routinely say the time in different ways. 5:30 is not "five-thirty", it's "half five"

Might be too late, but thought i'd ask anyways.

We have the same tower:) Antec 900.

Something grossly undermentioned here: twist-ties. you know, the metal wires with a plastic casing? you get about 10 with every damn electronic device you buy, and they're much harder to see than velcro or cables ties, and you can always find one.

@jeffk: I actually use the really really BIG binder clips (the ones that span about an inch) and just clip them right on my desk. works perfectly

/facepalm/

@brodiemac: Someday I shall have the pleasure of doing that, but i am sadly limited to IDE at the moment. Why Ubuntu server though?

@cvelasquez12: if you want to recover some files from your old vista install (dunno if you've gotten that done yet), get any Linux Live CD (I like Backtrack: [www.remote-exploit.org] ), mount your old filesystems (will probably happen automatically) and copy over the files you want.

@cvelasquez12: Gparted Live CD. It's what' you'll be using to manage partitions in Ubuntu anyways.

@SleepingMartyr: I spent years looking for a good place to get my hair cut (this is in DC) and I finally settled on a stylist (bit pricey: $40) who can chop my mane 3 times a year. He works in a rather fancy french-run place, and I'm the only guy i ever see getting his hair cut in there, but it works. Don't be afraid

@Alfonzo: What I'm really asking is this: given a shot to start anew with a computer, what would you do to keep it clean and organized from the start?

@bachya: Lets say it's been trashed by a few years of bad computer habits and the current OS has ceased to function. by relatively new i mean P4 or better. Although older computers would make an interesting topic (i think there might already be an article about that though).

When you get an old computer from a friend that you want to fix up, what do you do? I mean a computer that doesn't have a specific purpose and is relatively new. Could be for you to use or just to give back to a friend.

Here's my idea: have the FGLRX drivers work with my ATI card again. Ubuntu has amazing bug-reporting sites etc, but most of the problems i've had have just sat there unfixed until i gave up on using Ubuntu as anything more than a backup/old computer OS.

Nice setup! I like the heavy use of laptops here; no desktop at all?

Just gonna be an asshole here. So to people not wanting to hear my rant, please don't read on.

@deanbmmv: Seconded. I have some rather excellent apophysis wallpapers. the 3d hack for apophysis (still in beta i think) in particular is great. Also friends are really impressed :P

@Wewtaco: @GeneralGozz: If you read the comments on the original flickr post he says that he would have possibly gone for nicer monitors now, but when he bought these they were perfect.

@cha0tic: Was thinking the same thing; I got my own apophysis background prettying up my desktop.
