My mom bought one of these new, a black AP1. She wasn’t really interested in performance, she just wanted a “cute” manual convertible. She drove it around like an old lady. I drove it a few times, once when she was sitting beside me. I wound it out to 9,000 rpm. She was like “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!” I said Mom, it’s su

Thank goodness she abandoned the car. And dealing with insurance over repairs from a deer hit would probably be more annoying than the trucker’s insurance paying for the totalled truck.

I’m certainly not the target demo for a cruise, but I’ve been on one, and it was great. I wouldn’t make it a habit due to environmental issues, but ...

Jalopnik REALLY should have some form of style book for how to talk about foreign car prices in a consistent way, especially when relating them to US cars in USD.

In fairness, I don’t know what it’s like far east - they may be different (particularly in Quebec!), I’m really only familiar with the western province’s fire engines.

I’m imagining going back in time to 1981... 1 year after the last Scout was completely discontinued.

Keep the Saab 9-3, add snow tires and do a refresh/upgrade of it.  Cool, quirky car, gets around in the snow alright, and you’ll be able to learn to do some of the work yourself.

Is there a problem with even one of the reasons she likes her car? We’d do well if more people bought cars that weren’t too big or too powerful.

How is the GTI the color the Volvo should be?

The only cars I see with a nice color selection are Chevy Sparks

I love this take.

The next Mazda6 has my attention. It is supposed to be RWD and offer an inline-6, possibly with a 48V hybrid option. The way Mazda has been absolutely killing it with styling has me really excited.  I hope they make it a liftback, too.

Maverick.

This is quietly the best answer hands down.

The first generation Toyota Prius was essentially just a crappy Toyota Echo with a battery shoved in it. The second generation was when it really, truly became an interesting consumer product to be taken seriously.
