Farewell, Viserys I Targaryen, aka Phantom of the Soap Opera.
*This* should’ve been the opening EP of the series.
Off-topic, I’ve rewatched that series of scenes so many times. From the point when Arya has the conversation w/Melisandra...”...You said I’d shut many eyes forever...brown eyes, green eyes...and blue eyes.”
That’s the thing. I mean, a character doesn’t necessarily have to be good to be likeable. There were a lot of characters in GoT’s who were awful but were also charming who’ve I’d grown to like. There just really isn’t anyone in HotD that rings the same way. They’re just awful people. I guess Aegon kind of reminds me…
That scene where Rhaenyra (selfishly) asks her father to help her out is clearly an allegory about fans wanting GRRM to finish the books before he dies.
Because it was also kind of....boring and slow?
Celeborn is completely superfluous to Galadriel’s story, if he shows up again, cool, if not, I”m fine with it.
Celeborn is definitely not dead. Galadriel says she ‘never saw him again,’ unlike her brother, whose body was recovered. They’re going to have to answer where he’s been, but there’s an emotional reunion coming up in some future season.
Kreiger being a man of culture is a fan of Iron Maidens early 90s album Fear of The Dark.
And that, I think, is what is causing GRRM more problems in writing. Not just that Bran is king, Dany breaks bad and Jon kills her.
But that the showrunners pinned his ass down and said, “OK, does Stannis win? Does Doran win? Is this Brown Plumm guy something?” and he told them no and they said, “OK, we’ll end those…
Get out of my head….I couldn’t agree more and I’m glad somebody else brought up the utter rubbish of that whole plot line. Benioff and Weiss deserve major plaudits for just redoing entire parts of that book.
I don’t know why this piqued my curiosity, but it did. Is this the thread?
My super hot take is that s1 of HoTD is going to make people reappraise Benioff and Weiss as they got right everything HoTD is struggling with.
Seriously, those two do not get enough credit these days for the bang up job they did adapting books larger than a dictionary a piece. The whole reason everyone got to bitch about seasons 7 and 8 is because they made seasons 1 thru *mumbles* amazing.
The master race, everyone.
IRL Comic Book Guy and his Wish.com Lucy Lawless clone.
I am all for representation in media (black dude here) but it is distracting as hell when it comes to this plot point and would just rather everybody involved be the same race. I chuckled when Aegon said “look at them.” No shit dude.
Yeah Rhaenyra is just a cascade of bad decisions, even moreso than in the book. The show’s casting makes her look butt-stupid for thinking she could pass those kids off as Laenor’s, and it’s not as if she ever suspected they might be his.
I’ve said it before: I think Fire & Blood is pointless outside of its publishing order. Its placement occurs right around when readers really start wondering what Dany is trying to restore, and it sucks the air out of her argument that anyone wanted the Targaryens back, which was never fully articulated on GOT as a…
