I'm sure their pricing is at least somewhat based on the actual cost to engineer and produce the vehicle, since the Targa uses the Cabrio body shell and much of the Cabrio's top mechanism, it stands to reason it should be similar to the Cabrio to build.

Given the financial status of an average buyer, I don't think saving a few grand over a Cabrio will ever be a motivation. It'll probably be more a buyer willing to cough up damn near as much as a Cabrio to own something unique, while also buying into a piece of 911 history.

If Porsche were worried about cannibalizing their own sales with similar models, they wouldn't have 18 versions of the 911 every single generation for the last 20 years. They offer tons of choice to a wide variety of buyers and that's one of the things I love about them
