The last time I went in for an exam I was dreading the weigh in/now feel bad portion, and was thrilled when I got on the scale because instead of the numbers being there, there was a sign saying “we take your weight as a vital statistic to help keep track of your state of health. It has nothing to do with your worth

Oh friend, I’m so sorry. I’ve had really similar experiences. PCOS is the fuckin’ worst for this, and so few doctors seem to care about it.

So much this. I am an athletic person occupying a socially acceptably-sized body but I used to be a sick, sick, sick anorexic person. But because of set point and genetics I never, even at my thinnest, dipped below 100 lbs. Which is dangerous because people praised me so much for my thinness. These same factors apply

She was the face of it for many years, she built her entire career off of it, and she was directly responsible for the contestants training. Which was horrible from a personal training perspective I’d add. She may not be “At the helm” but she sure as fuck is a lot of the reason the show has the reputation is has...

Well I sure as shit can’t name anyone else from that show, much less anyone that was as toxic to the contestants as she was.

I went to see my doctor yesterday for depression. I’m not sure if the nurse couldn’t help herself or it’s a state law or some shit, but after we did all the check in stuff, as she was leaving the room, she told me my BMI and that “diet and exercise was recommended.”

I few years back I worked out with a certified personal trainer. (A family member was dying of cancer and I wasn’t eating very much just then [and was consequently a bit underweight] or getting enough physical activity. in other words, not taking care of myself). At the end of the two months of twice weekly sessions I

Oh holy shit The Swan!! That was fucking train-wreck tv right there. All I really remember is everyone wound up with the same creepy ultra-white Chiclet teeth. Even if their original teeth were fine to begin with.

I’ve long hated this show as it is exploitative as fuck. While I strongly disagree with the notions that sustainable weight loss is not possible (I myself am proof it is) The Biggest Loser teaches literally all the wrong lessons on how to do it. So instead of getting into the more controversial social topics I am just

Honestly, this. ESPECIALLY when Jillian Michaels was at the helm.

I'm surprised no one has died on this show

The only thing worse for body image than this horrible show was The Swan. Remember that shit show?

Indeed. But the Biggest Loser has the added element of where it is shaming a significant portion of the population as well. I’m tone deaf, and I’ve never felt shamed by American Idol because I can’t sing.

The whole genre of reality television-themed game shows (i.e., where there is a winner and many losers) has always been more about voyeuristic cruelty than it is about the greater aspirations of the individual candidates. I’m old enough to remember when American Idol first premiered and was an overnight sensation in

Tits are more offensive than guns.  Fuck this country.

Hopefully she’s only inconveniencing other rich people. I was irritated with her audacity until I realized it’s probably a high end gym.

Yup that’s what I instantly thought as well. It’s like when you hear about a rich person getting busted for diving while hideously drunk. I literally aspire to have so much money that I never have to drive again because I can have a chauffeur at my beck and call, and these idiots are out there endangering lives for

Wouldn’t it be more convenient to have whatever workout equipment she wants at her probably-palacial home? Rather than renting an entire gym every time she wants to exercise. Or is there something I’m missing about rich people?

Why isn’t the criticism valid? The problem isn’t one of a person writing about a culture of which they are not a part; the problem is writing about a culture of which they are not a part and reinforcing racist and sexist tropes (around the magical blue-eyed POC and subservient Asian women, romanticizing the West,

As soon as you have to say something along the lines of that it wasn’t racist in year xxxx, you need to stop, you lost the argument.
