You’re not wrong, but something about the gross shit I’ve seen from some fans just sours the experience of watching the show for me.

I mean, you’re allowed to like a show plenty. But it’s hard for lots of people - self included - to enjoy something when its most devoted fans routinely act like assholes.
Ugh, I feel you. I’m in the very early stages of planning a wedding and it’s not my jam. I don’t mind planning things, but I’m a lousy host and my family is very opinionated.
Yeah, this bothers me too. I did a lot of fundraising for our local Hubbard House in college each October (and year-round, but October was when we held our biggest events) and people paid so little attention because of all the pinkified “awareness” stuff happening.
Exactly! I know intellectually that I’m probably not going to like, trip and fall on a baby or something, but they’re so little and they’re bones aren’t even fully fused together yet.
That’s actually really interesting, but Pewdiepie is pushing 30. Idk if the linguistic evolution of teens really applies to him specifically.
Yeah, I’m petrified of accidentally dropping babies. My sister laughs at me when I want to sit down to hold my nephew, but I’d rather look silly than hurt him.
Okay? I don’t work in social services, so I don’t have a ton of knowledge of the professional hierarchies in those agencies.
Same here. Honestly this is the kind of story I thought this series would be about. Like, kids being removed by overzealous case workers due to unexplained bumps and bruises.
Oh definitely. I hate cleaning and I have a hard time getting stared, but saying I don’t know how to would be totally disingenuous.
I definitely think social media changed the way celebrities talk on these types of shows, but Megyn Kelly is no Oprah. Who wants to open up to someone who spent a chunk of their career yelling about Santa being white?
This has been my experience too. I was a teacher for a while and I called DCF on a mom who threatened to make her son sleep outside because he forgot to take his ADHD meds one day. Other teachers had called previously and her son was never removed. I think she had to go to anger management, which sounds like a good…
Yeah, my mother did something similar. She didn’t call the teacher a bitch, but she was so embarrassed at the possibility of her kid having ADHD that she refused to even take me to the doctor.
Tbh I sort of figured his “reprimanding” was actually threatening, or at least sounded that way.
This is what I figured was happening. I hate being so cynical, but I really do feel like there’s probably more to the first story than just a messy apartment.
I don’t disagree with everything you’ve said, but an over-sanitized environment is not what causes asthma. Dust actually exacerbates asthma.
I’m so sorry you had to deal with that :/ This reminds me a lot of my girlfriend’s upbringing. Her mom was someone who “didn’t see messes”, so my girlfriend ended up being the de facto family housekeeper. It resulted in her being super meticulous about cleaning and developing a lot of anxiety about things being clean…
I think a lot of people conflate “don’t know where to start” with “don’t know how to clean.” So like, messes pile up and get overwhelming and even though you know it’s awful, you have no idea where to start. Granted, I think most people still attempt to prioritize genuine hazards/garbage and stuff.
I have a lot of executive functioning issues, and I tend to walk away from messes, so I kinda get it. But hiring a housekeeper is probably a good idea since you have the means. I would do it in a heartbeat if I could.
This doesn’t surprise me. I might be misremembering, but I’m pretty sure Debra stumped for Hillary and is relatively outspoken about political stuff.
