I have yet to understand why so many battle royale games get away with looking like early PS3 shovelware.

The part in Borat where they played each other was the funniest part.
I don’t think that’s invalid. I think Farcry in particular has been copy pasting for a while. Every time there’s a hint of fresh ideas bubbling to the surface (the dedicated co-op campaign in 3, the tower defense mechanics of 4's DLC, the class-based multiplayer of 4 - with tiger grenades!, or the base/world building…
2 took the most risks of any of the Ubisoft titles and laid the groundwork for what the series has become. It also had some of the most unique and engaging mechanics (the in-world map, the player’s base, the illness, the gun jamming). Sadly, the series abandoned a lot of what gave 2 it’s flavor.
That’s part of my point. There hasn’t been, but at least the various areas built upon themselves. As you’d progress, slight variations kit-wise would start showing up. In 5, everyone seemed to be carrying the same rifle and same pistol the whole way through the game. There was barely any variety whatsoever.
I doubt it helped that the controls for the first 2 were garbage and the gameplay loop was boring.
FC3 was a breath of fresh air. FC4 refined a lot of what made FC3 great. Primal went and refined it even further and streamlined and improved a lot of it even further (while having one of the better, more cohesive stories). FC5 brought nothing new to the table and actually took quite a few steps backward, as far as…
I said the same thing after playing God of War! Lol.
Primal is hugely underrated. The fact very few replies to my own comment acknowledge it, makes me feel a whole ton of people slept on it. Which is a shame. It’s probably the best one, if not my personal favorite.
I’ve played ever one since 2. And platted every one since 3.
2 is considered by many to be the pinnacle of the series story-wise, if not mechanically (it was generally unliked by many because enemy outposts respawned too frequently).
Play the older ones. Literally every other Farcry game made by Ubisoft is better than 5.
I think the bunkers were a setting-appropriate evolution of the caves scattered throughout Primal. I thought they were actually one of the coolest changes. However, it’s to be noted they were NOT used as a replacement for radio towers in Primal, they were an addition. Primal combined small outposts with bonfires that,…
I actually think Primal did a better job at refining the gameplay loop than 4 or 5 came close to doing. It’s just they tossed it all out in 5.
I don’t think the setting/location has any true impact on my enjoyment of the series. Moving to America was basically worthless. We got... different colored woods. That was about it.
Farcry 5 has completely soiled my enjoyment of the series. The main story was made to be invasive and annoying, not to mention vapid and weak-willed. The online suite is flaming garbage. The co-op has not made any significant strides. The DLC seems, thus far, like they left the good ideas on the cutting room floor.…
I bought the game for $10 new a couple months back. Haven’t gotten around to it, but I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy the hell out of it when I get to it, especially now that all that BS has been removed.
No worries. Just want to make sure people understand the changes. (I’m personally angry they removed the Tactical SMG. I just got used to using it. Lol)
