“Make a real game.”
“Make a real game.”
As a lifelong Padres fan, I understand your pain. This year will hopefully be a little more entertaining.
Same. We got our first computer around 94 so I've been typing since about 10 years old. I interned as a reporter so I've become skilled at furiously typing without ever looking at even the screen. And every capitalization is my left pinky on that left shift key. Always has been, always will be. No idea why.
I walked right into Petco Park at 11 am this morning. No lines. And the stadium is packed to the gills.
I don’t think it’s really fair to be so dismissive of Beto and Harris. They’re both public servants like Sanders who have served in public office. They’re both also way younger, which makes it hard to stack up a CV or legislative track record on par with someone who’s been in Congress for several decades.
Yeah I’m dumb, it was just a no-hitter. Don’t know why I thought it was as PG.
Uhh the Dodgers have won the NL West a bunch of times lately and made it to the last two post-seasons. The Yankees have been fine lately. I’m talking about the correlation between payroll and winning. Winning the playoffs are a crapshoot but generally spoeaking, the teams that spend more money in baseball tend to make…
I'd rather than the team that spends the most money wins. I think of the of the reasons why the Patriots are so infuriating, yet compelling, is they've managed to become a dynasty in one of the sports where you simply can't just outspend the competition. Personally, I'd like a sports season to be more than just an…
Come on down! Judging by your handle, we root for the same hockey team (of which I'm a season ticket holder). The Padres can be fun in person. And by that, I mean that Petco is a goddamn paradise with more craft beer than most grocery stores.
I was at this game. I'm still not sure I how feel about that. I also saw Timmy's perfect game against the Padres. I'd really love something positive since I made the grievous sin of naming my son after a Padres player (a HoF, but still).
It appears they moved Kendall up to the booth in the second period to let her escape Pierre. Love that they're getting her perspective here. Hopefully this leads to more opportunities for the women's national team players.
The only issue I have is that just because the owners can afford 300 million to 400 million doesn’t mean it’s a wise investment. Otherwise you’re going to see insane inflation in player salaries that I think will really hurt baseball. Baseball players already take in the second most money over their lifetimes than…
Maybe I'm naive but I'd be shocked by a work stoppage. The players don't seem to agitate ad much in baseball as they do in other sports.
The world changes. The game changes. Or am I imagining all of the whining about how the shift is killing the game? Ditto with the value of service time. That certainly wasn’t the prevailing attitude 15 years ago.
I agree completely. I think if they lowered their range to 5 years, you’d see some healthy competition for their services. It also gives both of them another shot at a big FA contract (especially if they only go 4 years).
I guess it’s a possibility but I also don’t think it serves clubs well to leak offers players aren’t interested in.
My guess is because Machado and Harper (and their agents) have continually set expectations that they want the richest deal ever. I think both guys would initiate an immediate bidding war if they publicly said they'd do a 4 to 5 year deal. But they haven't signaled any interest in that. That's on them and their…
I’m a huge baseball fan and the constant collusion articles and continual focus on Harper and Machado is getting tiresome. You’re absolutely right that the very AAVs quoted in this article are the reason why Machado and Harper aren’t getting offers.
I agree about the injuries but Carlyle has to go. There have been several games during the current skid where we’ve had a lead in the third, only to spectacularly collapse.
Agreed. Grandal can hit OK but I think he creates friction with his teammates (he got torched in the media in San Diego after the Padres traded him) but he’s objectively bad at the job of being a catcher. Pitchers don’t like throwing to him and although he rates well as a farmer, dude is a passed ball and dropped ball…
