Jesus fucking Christ. Even our “allies” are monsters.
Jesus fucking Christ. Even our “allies” are monsters.
You would think by now that practitioners and activists in this realm would get their fucking houses in order. (That is to say, the individuals and their own houses, not the institutions they work with or for.) A bit of introspection and a lot of self recusal (better yet, self control) would go a long way in…
My heart just crashed. We will need brave providers to step up and fill the void. Disappointment is not a word that does adequate justice to what I am feeling right now. My heart goes out to Ms. Russell and his other victims.
This is so disappointing! When I heard the news earlier I gasped. I’m sadder for the people who have felt silenced by his prominence in the field - especially since RJ work is so important. Coming forward to speak truth and dismantle the abuses of power are more important than upholding someone because they serve as a…
Saw Alanis Morissette on tour with Tori Amos in '99. Went for Tori, stayed for Alanis. It was a great show! It was right after the follow up to JLP when she did that video for "Thank You" where she was naked on the subway. All the guys in my class hated that video, so I naturally liked it.
RatM has some really good songs though. Killing In The Name of DEFINITELY holds up, and is verrrrrry relevant. Also, the thing I dislike about the ‘angsty’ label, is that you’re saying that the anger felt was disingenuous, not real, or not justified. Sure that may be true of some of the fans, but Zach De La Rocha…
I kind of wish those little girls had a cool older sister or aunt who would have hooked them up with Liz Phair instead, but Alanis is definitely better than the mediocre, “be quiet and smile more” conformist nonsense that’s otherwise pushed on women.
Same here - I have a lot of respect for Alanis Morrisette, but I have absolutely thought her music was garbage from day one. I was already a fan of PJ Harvey, and Rid of Me was such a work of genius. Like, if you need raw music that still holds up, from a brilliant woman artist, start working on her discography.
I’d like to know how much of the author’s husband’s discomfort is with a woman holding a man accountable for his shitty actions throughout this album.
Quintessential 90s album on vinyl?
I get feeling disappointed by an album after it holding such a place in your life at such a critical time.
The Pumpkins were my first concert, in the antique year of 1997. I still have my shirt with a devil smiley face and the words “the world is a vampire” underneath. I might have to dig it out this weekend.
You leave Trent out of this. The Downward Spiral is still amazing - you’re pretty spot on on the others though.
There are very few albums from this era that hold up. I never got into Jagged Little Pill. It was a little too commercial at the time (for me).
The other day, my husband said to me, “I decided not to try to reason with you about buying Jagged Little Pill on vinyl and bought what was in our Amazon cart.” I gave him a pitying look and said, “It is an amazing album. You’ll see. You’ll see.”
Is it possible your husband ruined it for you with his attitude? My ex made me hate things I loved by ridiculing me/them.
Yeah, this is an unfortunate take.
I have not listened to Jagged Little Pill in a very long time, but don’t ruin it for me. What’s next on your list? Pieces of You by Jewel?
“makes no conclusion as to whether President Trump committed a crime.”
lol. Bad people are never held accountable for the bad things they do. That is a fact of life in this country.
