Come on, Jalopnik writers. I expect you understand why we can’t “just ban fossil-fueled cars at the moment” and this is just a troll. The problems with this statement, in no particular order...

“What do you mean, I can’t get the rebate limited to dealer stock of last year’s model with my custom order? I’m ordering last year’s model!”

I have often heard that you should never buy a car manufactured on a Monday or Friday. Is there any factual (read: proof) of this?

Especially strange because the Ram 2500 is carryover for 2021 without any major changes. Why the need to order a 2020?

As bad as question 1 was, question 2 is really hurting my brain.

This week on: Car blog where the bloggers hate cars!

Raphael Orlove: “Non-EVs should be banned now.”

No matter how weird and crazy California gets, it continues to be a major hub of creativity, business, and outdoor adventure.

Hey, let’s not simplify problems too much— gotta blame their NIMBY anti-nuclear power stance, too.

Have you ever worked, in any capacity, at any business involved in the production, distribution, or sale of an actual product other than blogging?

He means the substance of the rant, not the underlying news.

There isn’t even enough global EV production capacity to supply the California market. I guess California gets all the EVs, and screw everyone else?

California is already having power supply issues, let’s add 2 million or so new EVs to the grid each year...

Many people here in state aren’t on board with this at all because of 2 things: 1. It was sudden as hell and a lot of people still aren’t clear on what’s happening & 2. Our electrical grid is trash. We can’t even handle high temps without rolling blackouts, yet officials and auto companies think that infrastructure

California will not exist in 2035, at least a California that has not been entirely burned to the ground.”

In 20 years we’ll be like Cuba, trying to keep all the old ICE cars alive.

All great questions. This article should be a thought exercise along the lines of “what would happen if the ban went into effect tomorrow?”

Instead, we have from-the-hip word vomit with absolutely zero critical thought put into it. Like most things Raph and Erik spit out, this take seems to be nothing more than being

This is a shitpost right? Is shitposting allowed on the front page?

How are the 44% of Californians who aren’t homeowners going to charge this raft of affordable BEVs? As long as you’re telling the rest of us how to fix the world for you why not just ban all fossil fueled vehicles, including ships and aircraft, tomorrow? That’s only slightly less silly than your proposal.

Doing what they’re doing is a far more complicated policy decision than you’re identifying - with plenty of complications and problems that make 2035 an aggressive deadline. Just a few of them:
