She specifically designed the whole setup as an homage to Astaire, if you watch the video.

Pretty awesome performance (and always fun to see how much she appreciates the classics!), and doubly awesome considering she did the whole thing on two sprained ankles. Kid’s a trooper, and while the sound mixing was, in the grand tradition of SNL, pretty shit, glad she got the memorable debut she deserved.
